What to do if being mistreated or singled out by an E-5 to make you look bad while you are going through MEB?

Brought it up to my plt Sgt about a conflict between me and a NCO for mistreatment while I'm going through my MEB process. I have requested for a different NCO. Situation was brought to my 1sgt from my plt Sgt but no action was taken. But I still have the same NCO as I brought to my plt sgt that this will be a future issue and I'm concern about my condition that I will have a breakdown and lose it

Personally, I would try bringing it up to your Platoon Sergeant to see if any progress has been made. Obviously, do it in their office and do it respectfully. Ask if you two (your Platoon Sergeant and yourself) can have a meeting with the 1SG to discuss the issue. If nothing occurs after that, it is well within your right to move up in the chain. But you want to ensure they have ample time to address the situation properly through their channels. You don't want to step on any toes, or make anyone feel disrespected. You should also look into getting attached (or assigned) to your base WTB (Warrior Transition Battalion) until you complete your MEB process.

This is what your COC is going to ask eachother when it is brought up. Has the NCO done anything illegal, unethical, or immoral? Is this SHARP related and is it EO related. If it doesnt fall under any of those areas it is at there descretion. Situations I have personaly experienced typicaly the soldier doesn't trust the NCO because of the NCOs expectations of his team. He has a mission to accomplish. The point of that is try to look at what he is expected to do and understand why. Look at the big picture. Whatever the case hes either doing his job or hes not living the army values.

I'd hate to jump to conclusions and give you improper/bad advice. Can you be a little more specific as to what is actually happening? Words like "mistreatment" and phrases like "to make you look bad" are a bit broad and ambiguous depending upon one's perspective.

Three routes you can take.

1) You stand up, pull that NCO off to the side and have a "rank off", one on one discussion with him.

2) Find an NCO you trust, and ask him if he could talk to your SL about what's going on. It'll help even better if that NCO is close to your squad leader. Sometimes people don't see things for what they are until their friends mention it.

3). Take proper channels, and if nothing still gets done about it, then go to IG. I can promise you it'll get fixed then.

The only way to truly solve a issue of this kind is to have a conversation with that nco and explain to him or her that you don't trait here leadership. Him or her as a nco has to be able to find a way to make things work because we are a team and COMMUNIATION IS KEY HERE ! so get your pair together man up and say the truth no wrong in that. Going up the chain for something that can be resolved at the lowest levers possible just brings mid trust and issues not only to the NCO but to the lower enlisted as well. We live in a world where the truth set you free and only the strong survive. ( Just my opinion)

I had this happen to me when I was an E-3. I wasn't going through an MEB though. I had NCO's who would not leave me alone. The reason was because I was put in a unit that didn't require my MOS so I was basically useless. In the end it got pretty heated and I had to check myself. I was able to get a sit down with the 1SG and was transferred to a proper unit. You have to stay on your Plt Sgt. Bug the hell out of him if you have to. Maintain your military bearing!!!! I can't stress this enough. Be professional. If none of that works you'll have to see a Chaplain. Then heads will roll. Good luck SPC, maintain your military bearing!!!

First, we do not know the time-line that the requested changes has already been on...everything takes time, so the fact that it has not happened does not mean it will not happened.

The most troubling thing in your whole post was your last statement 'I will have a breakdown and lose it'. Brother..sister (D H. could be either)...if this is effecting you beyond duty hours, get professional help NOW. These things are always in the details, which we have none of, but if are about to breakdown or lose it, we need this addressed first.

Having a breakdown due to incompatibility is a bit of a weak statement from any combat soldier. Take it up with your NCO and ask him what his issue with you is, but do this firstly face to face then in the company of a ranking soldier. He will soon back off. When I was a young potential soldier in basic training with the British army the directing staff would always single out individuals to try and break our spirit. It's part of the process..

Document, document, document everything. Lots of Soldiers these days are going through an MEB, most of them are damned good Soldiers. I don't know you so... One thing for sure, if you are a good troop, keep doing your best. Whether you want to stay in or be medically discharged, don't give up! I was recently medically retired by one (and I was fighting it). If they won't reassign you to another NCO after you have documentation, go higher. Chain of Command!!!

You really didn't give enough information about how you are being mistreated. So my advice would be don't forget that you still have to play Army while you are in so just do what is asked of you with out giving leadership a hard time. If you are being harassed because you are going through MEB tell your PEBLO and use the open door policy with the CO and then give him awhile to take action as everything in the military it takes time to correct problems.

If your chain of command does not resolve the problem in a timely manner talk to your MEB/PEB advisor. Part of their responsibility is to help with this type of thing. I had to utilize mine for a similar situation. I would recommend you talk to the 1sg first though. Mine got a formal letter about the situation and as it turned out he knew nothing about it even though I had been told he did. He was very upset that I hadn't gone to him first. Regardless, the situation was handled.

Goal 1 of an NCO is the welfare of all troops . if he is not treating you fairly keep going up the chain of command,,, if that dont work remind him that NCO's lead by example .. and that would put him in front of your weapon

Look bud the only thing you can do is to continue to do your job don't let there be a reason why anyone would doubt your work. There has to be a reason why he is saying anything at all, the whole " I don't care what anyone thinks or says " has got to be knocked off cause it solely depends on that you do good you get good you do bad you get bad so do the most and if your "not" doing anything you need to reevaluate the situation you just don't get replacement nco's don't overthink it.

Having a battle with you when you are speaking to your NCO would be the best line of defense. You then have a witness and you can go to the IG if you do not get results from your 1SG.
