Sadly, most American corporations resemble bureaucracies these days. Employees are more concerned with dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s than with profitable growth of the company. Most small businesses and entrepreneurs are mission oriented, but few of those could afford me. The one exception was the first two years that I was under contract to Toyota USA. There I learned the "Toyota Way" and it was like heaven. Sadly, they reorganized their upper management and the president was called back home to Japan to take a higher position in the parent corporation and his replacement wasn't up to leading and Toyota USA lost its way. Sad. Two years more and I happily moved on to other contracts. It was opposite of every leadership skill I was ever taught or learned during almost 28 years active duty. It was a very hard adjustment for me. (I had to stay at the job due to wife medical issues.)
