I went to boot camp at Naval Recruit Training Center, Orlando, Florida on April 25th, 1985 and then on to my school at Naval Training Center, Merridian, Mississippi. Basic Enlisted Submarine School was next at Naval Base, New London, Connecticut. Following that, I was assigned to Submarine Group SIX at Naval Base, Charleston, South Carolina.

The Cold War was over in 1989 and they had to get rid of as many people as they could. Whirlwind medical boards, etc. I was medically retired out and the Navy asked where I'd like to be sent home to. I said "London, England." "Now son, the Navy doesn't have money to send you there so by law, we are obligated to send you to where you enlisted from only." "Okay sir, in that case, I enlisted in London, England."
