What song gets you motivated?

Do you have one? It can be one from a deployment that you listened to before missions, a song before a PFT, etc.

Just interested to see the trends especially with deployments music throughout the services as well as with the diverse group we have here which includes some Vietnam vets, Gulf war vets, and of course OIF/OEF vets.

Iron Butterfly's ‎"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" was to me the same motivator as Song of the Valkyrie was to the num-nuts LTC in Apocalypse Now. I always played it before going outside the wire.

Music motivates me in so many ways. Back in 2004 at FOB Speicher someone gave my driver a little boom box and before missions she used to put 50 cent album "get rich or die trying" lol. Its hilarious now that I think about it but that song "what up gangsta" used to get us so fired up leaving the FOB. For some reason the way that song came on made me feel real invincible.

Now days on my way to a PFT Ill listen to DMX just to wake me up and get me hyped BUT if I could listen to music while I was doing my run it would be "We come running" by Youngblood Hawke. Obviously I change the words to "we GO running" while its playing. When I listen to it on the treadmill

When I went through jump school in November 1975, they played loud airborne music every morning just after first call. I don't remember the time now, but I know it was pretty early. Those songs made my day, motivated me to do my best (or even try to top my best) in jump school, and generally got me going every morning. I remember those songs very fondly. They blared the music in the barracks. Great memories.

I have used a variety of music, depending on the situation. During my first deployment to Iraq in 2004 (OIF II), I listened to Evanescence a lot. During my second tour in Iraq, I listened to a more eclectic mix. During my recent tour to Afghanistan, I listened to Warfighter music from a Veteran artist, "Soldier Hard", as well as the "Patriotic Rock" band, Madison Rising (their lead singer is a Navy vet). One of my favorite Madison Rising songs is their unique rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. They also have several others I really enjoy.

To me it all depends on the mood. As far as inspiring me... I look for many things... does it tell a story like the songs of yesterday did, does it carry a cool stand out beat... are the lyrics audible... does the singers voice reach out and captivate you... has to have a strong lead guitar as well.I was raised on Country when country was country ( Kissed by Loretta Lynn), went through High school when music (ROCK) sounded the same at a concert as it did on Vinyl or cassette....There are few MODERN groups or singles that catch my eye as with all the computer enhanced voices and pretty much everything else being enhanced its hard to find a modern band (IMO) that is truly worthy of being inspirational . Give me that ole back beat ( real voice) rhythm and call it Skippy

We had a playlist of Rob Zombie, Nine Inch Nails, Disturbed, etc that we listened to as we were prepping for missions - by the time we SP'd or hit the TDP, we had so much adrenaline pumping... It also seemed to distract us from other thoughts and maintain focus on "the rage".

The one song sticking out in my head right now is Battle Cry by Imagine Dragons. It's a song they made for Transformers: Age of Extinction and ever since I heard it I loved it. I added it to my PT Test play list as the last song so I knew if I started hearing it I needed to get my ass into gear because if the song finished playing before I finished running I was a dead duck.
