What skills and abilities do those that apply for vacant positions at Rallypoint but don't qualify for usually lack?

Right now, there are two positions - digital product designer and senior software engineer. I'm interested in working in somewhat similar roles, and think guidance with do's and don't's from those at RP could help me and many others here looking to become competitive in the IT industry.

I would like to assume that like most vacant positons, they are outlined with roles and responsibilities coupled with the desired qualifications and skill sets for the position. The individual assessment should not be difficult, either they possess what is being looked for or they don't.
