It's a constant flow of cheap labor. As long as there are jobs, there will be people coming across to work them. Furthermore, our drug war has created a war zone in south america. So you have the pull of jobs and the push of people fleeing violence. If the choice is risking a border crossing vs dealing with upwards of 10% homicide rates in some areas, it's a pretty easy choice. So to start they should enforce what's on the books. When people think of illegals they only think of those who cross the southern border. But 50% of the illegals are here in the U.S. on expired visas. The United States only tracks the visas coming in we do not track what leaves. That is something that needs to be fixed also. So if we enforce existing laws and control the visas better we could get a better handle on Americas immigration problem. The size of our Nation is such that controlling the border is not plausible.<br /><br />There needs to be a solution for what happens once they get here and what it is they are trying to do here. Whether its seeking asylum, looking for work, or here to conduct gang related activities; there needs to be a clear and concise law pertaining to it. Right now, its held and deported. But in some instances, we should be helping those looking for refuge.<br /><br />Whatever the case. Patrolling the borders is basically impossible. That's the short-term fix. Longer term, I think some sort of fence, along with National Guard support to the Border Patrol would be in order. Also, video surveillance along the entire border.<br /><br />I'm obviously not an expert in these issues, not even well versed, but I think those sorts of efforts will help. I might add some sort of agreement with Mexico to punish people attempting to cross the border illegally. Just some random ideas on how to stop the flood of illegal immigrants. The amount of people he sees skipping across the border is astounding. He is talking about hundreds per day, just what he sees. The entire force is undermanned, under gunned, and under funded to use technology like drones and fencing. <br /><br />I asked him once what would begin to curb the problem. His response was a few thousand military sharpshooters along the border with no bag limit and lethal force. I happen to agree with his experience even though there is no political way it will ever happen.
