What should I know about Fort Stewart for my first duty station?

Just found out my new duty station will be Fort Stewart. This will bet first duty station straight out of AIT. Can anyone give me information on what it's like there and what to expect? Do's and don'ts?

I was at Fort Stewart from May 2006 to March 2007 as my final duty station - 2nd BCT, 1st Battalion, 9th FA. I loved it for the most part. Living conditions were a little bit shit from what I can remember, but not unbearable. It's hot, humid, and have mosquitoes the size as softballs.

No answering your question but I want to say congratulations. Your first duty station is both cornerstone and milestone. Remember enjoy. Your unit is only as good as it's people and since you are one.. be proud of your unit. Make the best of your opportunity.

Good luck! Ft Stewart was my first duty station. I had a miserable time but I think that was just my command (The CO ended up getting relieved). Its hot and humid and the mosquitoes are huge! Take advantage of Savannah its only 35 mins away :)

Was a recruiter out ther for he AF from 2009 till 2013. It's a small town created by the existence of the military there. But it has all the basic necessities. There is an amazing gym with an indoor pool and rock climbing wall. It's a huge base and they don't take speeding lightly. Off base is normal rural south Ga life. Lots of trees, mosquitos, humid, and the smell from the paper mill can be overwhelming sometimes.
The upside is that not but an hour from Fort Stewart is Savannah, Ga. An amazing, beautiful city that you will enjoy many activities! Also the beach, Jacksonville is about 2 hours. Atlanta is 4 and a boring drive across "the Ga desert" as we call it and then Macon.
Pooler (about 20 or so mins) is a newer city with lots of amenities. New shopping outlets, good food (The Pie Pantry), movie theaters, etc.
In Richmond Hill, one of the best Scottish bars, Molly McPhersons. Good food, fun times, great atmosphere and the owner is super cool.

Savannah, well Savannah is just awesome. There isn't a bad restaurant, bar, etc there. It's a small town though so you will run into the same people and the same crowds and it can get old. But that's when road trips come into play. The River walk is fun, city market is best, and broughton street has everything else.

Savannah College of Art and Desin is out there so a HUGE art scene. Lots of hipsters too. But with that comes great and unique coffee shops, beer, "fast" food, restaurants, etc.

The sandgnats suck bad. So if it Ian the mosquitos getting you, it's them. :)

You can expect for your command to demand discipline. You can expect to run lot, you can expect to do training in the field alot.
Fort Stewart can be a good assignment. Get out of the area, when you can and travel. You can be at the beach in an hour, You're just a couple of hours from Florida. Not too far from South Carolina. I used to go to Hilton Head from there. Not too far from Savanna, Ga. Its a nice city in its own right. Just be a professional Soldier, and travel when you're off-duty. If you stay in the Hinesville area all the time, u probably won't like Fort Stewart

I am currently deployed but I am stationed at Fort Stewart. I have been to just about every Army base in the world and they are all pretty much the same, the only thing that changes is the weather.

Fort Stewart is a nice post and the 3rd Infantry Division has a long and proud history. Savannah, Georgia is about 30 minutes away and is an awesome city full of rich culture and history. You will be place in the Marne Reception Company while you inprocess post. you will be there for about two weeks. You will get a bunch of classes, go to CIF, do P.T. and everything else that goes with inprocessing.

Every place you go in the Army is only as good as you make it. Stay away from the Soldiers that talk bad about the unit or the installation, they are bad influences and will only bring your motivation down. Stay positive, work hard and you will be successful wherever you go.

Learn the Dogface Soldier song before you get there as you sing it everyday. I have attached the link for the Fort Stewart website. It has the inprocessing procedures for newly arriving Soldiers and you can download a copy of the Marne Standards book (the song is in there).

This place isn't bad at all. This was my number one on ask. Every duty station has its ups and downs but command and Mos have alot to do with it. You also have a lot of cool places that are not to far away

I was there for 5 years, 3 units and 2 MOS. Hated almost every minute of it. The weather I can deal with (hot and very humid, expect to be sweating just getting the mail). Depending what unit you go to expect a decent amount of corruption, racism and sexism. As for life off post, well anything other than Wal-Mart, Applebees, Chilis or Ruby Tuesday is in Savannah (about 50 miles away). Tybee island is garbage, hit Jeykell or St Simions (farther but way nicer). Night life is all on River Street in Savannah or Statesboro (same distance). If you like hunting then you have hogs and some tiny Deer, leave the gators alone. DO NOT live on post. The housing is old, out dated and filled with mold and over priced. Even if you get the new housing they screw you my making you pay electric (the insulation isn't up to code so your AC never stops). I am now at Bliss and love it. No wasting time singing a song before PT, no Marne standard and a bunch less red tape to get stuff done. These guys saying they spent a lot of time in the field must have been out for a while as the budget cuts have put a serious hurting on field time. Depending on your MOS will also decide how much time you spend in the field. Lastly I hope you like gnats and mosquito's.

Welcome to the Marne Express! You will have fond memories of this being your first duty station. Each sunny morning, the Dog Face Soldier song will be your #1 Top Hit of the Day. You will learn to hate the mosquitos and humidity quickly as it starts to get warmer. I used to say it was better to run a full hour of PT than to stay in one place and do other exercises due to mosquitos attacking you. Foremost, you should enjoy the post. I was there for 4 years and my family enjoyed the time despite it being so hot and humid. We were able to visit Atlanta and Savannah to see family. If you like to explore the east coast has a wealth of history in cities, old Civil War forts, museums and tourists attractions. Jekyll Island and St Simon Island are family friendly and were our favorite beaches to take our kids too. Atlanta is 4 hours away if you ever venture that way. Hinesville has changed some since I last left but most people will travel to Savannah to enjoy the weekends. Hopefully the long lines at the gates each morning have improved some too. Enjoy 3rd ID and be safe and learn from your NCOs and other Soldiers each day.

My first duty station is at fort Stewart and I'll be stationed there the 18 of April of this year I looking forward to a gewta start of my career as well the memories looking forward to working with all of you
