It may seem like an awkward dynamic but that NCO probably has 10-15 years under his belt and knowns the platoon in side and out, or should. Also take your guidance from the commander. He will give you his intent and your left and right limits as long as you can accomplish his mission with in your limits then you should be fine. Also be prepared to run. Enjoy.Response by CW2 Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 5 at 2018 9:24 AM2018-06-05T09:24:15-04:002018-06-05T09:24:15-04:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member3686942

If you are QM there is a good chance they make you a PL of some sort in a field feeding company. The 82 SUST (and most of the rest of the SUST BDEs) absorbed the 92G working at the DFAC from all line units and consolidated them into feeding companies recently... 01JUNE2018. If you are headed into a feeding company, be very patient as 92G have unorthodox schedules and this is something new to them.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 5 at 2018 1:05 PM2018-06-05T13:05:16-04:002018-06-05T13:05:16-04:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member3686948

Its a good practice to call ahead and see if they have you on their officer slate. Not sure if that applies to a new LT but I'm sure I wont hurt. As far understanding of the everyday workings of a unit, you may be a hair above a brand new 19 year old private, so be humble enough to ask for help. Not much is expected of you, especially not from your troops. You are just the "new LT" until you prove otherwise. Take that grace period to pick apart your NCOIC brain, and dont shy away from having a chat with your Spec4 mechanic just to get a feel for things in the bay.

Dont try to be a buddy, because nobody like that, and frankly nobody wants that. You will get your marching orders from the CO, you will then pass along the intent to your NCOIC, who will in turn suggest the best approach. Be open, honest and upfront with your NCOIC, and if he is worth half his weight in salt he will guide you and give you his best course of action going forward. HHCs run Staffs. As Logistics/QM, you’ll likely start out as a worker-bee in BDE S-4.

Study the MDMP closely, ask around BOLC Cadre while you’re there to see if you can get some mentoring on what a SUST BDE S-4 does.
Don’t be afraid to contact the gaining Unit S-1 and confirm your pinpoint assignment.

Then assuming I’m right and you are going to BDE S4, contact the guy/gal via NIPR email, introduce yourself and ask their priorities as well as what you might do to prepare.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 9 at 2019 5:38 PM2019-07-09T17:38:34-04:002019-07-09T17:38:34-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member6536594

Listen to your NCO’s.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 28 at 2020 6:15 PM2020-11-28T18:15:12-05:002020-11-28T18:15:12-05:00CSM Private RallyPoint Member6905560

Lead Soldiers?Response by CSM Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 15 at 2021 9:53 PM2021-04-15T21:53:37-04:002021-04-15T21:53:37-04:002018-06-04T14:09:01-04:00
