"x" days and a wake up. I used that one long before I enlisted, didn't know it was an army saying, I guess because so many of my relatives are vets. 4th point of contact, telling time in 24 hr. format

Before I retired I worked as a SNCOIC at range maintenance. I had up to 30 Marines. Everyone was a 6 month FAP. So they rotated often. I never had the chance to learn everyones nome. So I tended to call them "chuckle nuts" if I had a brain fart. It slips out at work sometimes.

When I arrived at my first "real Marines" posting with an 81mm mortar platoon in 1973, we had a lot of salts that had been in 'Nam, Japan, or Philippines, and used foreign expressions like "Mama-San", etc.

One day a Sgt ordered me to do something "right now" using what appeared to me to be one of these Asian expressions, and I asked him which language.

You can imagine my embarrassment when he replied, "ASAP is English, you idiot!"
