Mailing $66.00 worth of candy to my 3 grand kids in Tacoma WA and watching my daughter's face turn blood red. I do this every year, but each year more and more candy. The dentist really loves me. lol

I used to love giving out candy when trick or treaters came around. I live in a security building now, so no kids can make it to my door, but every year I keep a few things around on the off chance someone smuggles in a grandchild or something.

The conviencing legal excuse to eat your favorite candy without feeling guilty and use the traditional excuse to check your childs bag when they get all sorts of candy that you like LOL. My favorite Halloween tradition is CARVING PUMPKINS. Even though my two boys are older, I still like to just get a friend or two together and carve a pumpkin. It doesn't need to be fancy, but I do a different one each year. Maybe this year I'll do a Veterans carving to show my gratitude to the VA for my new health benefits.

Mom would decorate the house with pictures of witches and jack-o'-lanterns and cardboard skeletons. Dad and my sister and I would carve the pumpkin in classic jack-o'-lantern style. Last but not least was the lighting of the jack-o'-lantern. It would be placed on the stoop and we would go trick-or-treating the neighborhood.
After dinner we would dunk for apples listen to Halloween music and eat pumpkin pie and candy apples. We had alot of fun with our friends and family. I miss those days!

Since Halloween is also my birthday (73rd celebration this year), the day always held special attraction. When we lived in various neighborhoods prior to my retirement, I would love to dress up up my scariest mask and frighten trick or treaters. Love scaring others; hate getting scared.

My favorite Halloween tradition is dressing up as a Celtic warrior and then joking and making fun of the kids in an Irish accent as they come to the door for treats. I just sit on the front porch and essentially have an hours-long improv session with the kids and their parents. I love it and everyone seems to have a pretty good time, lots of laughs from the kids and parents. It's all in good spirits of course, I don't make fun to where it could hurt someone's feelings. For instance one year a tween was dressed as a Pink Lady, I asked if she was Sandra Dee and she blank stared at me, I said yanno from the movie Grease, your costume? She said she'd never seen the movie, so I called out to the street to find her parents and told them next time they make their daughter dress as one of their childhood memories to at least make her watch the movie first. Poor thing didn't even know what she dressed as... I gave her extra candy and told her from now on if anyone asks just say Sandra Dee.

My wife and I love going to friends' Halloween parties with gag food items! These are foods that look traditional yet have a unique twist! For example, one year we did caramel-covered...onions! The caramel conceals the onion and the stick creates the classic look, but inside...something wicked awaits! Oh, the anticipation of waiting, watching to see who will be the first victim to succumb! Another time we did traditional cookies both Oreo style and frosted but some cookies were true to form while others held the minty freshness of wintergreen toothpaste!!! It's one of my favorite traditions when someone thinks they are getting a delicious treat yet falls for the trick instead!

Putting out the Halloween decorative with my mom. Some of them have been in our family for years and have stories behind them. As time has gone by we have progressed from me handing them to her to place to her handing them to me. Nothing beats the feeling of cutting the pumpkin open and sticking your hands into the gooey insides and pulling out the seeds to cook up. Orange slime up to your elbows is the closest to being a kid again.

A family trip to our local Pumpkin Patch to select the most perfect pumpkins to carve and use as decorations on our front porch. Then this year our family has decided to home make their costumes each choosing a scarry theme. So lots of face paint and fake blood this year. And finally on halloween night we all meet at my house to commence trick or treating in our neighborhood because our neighborhood is a very close knit group and our children have all grown up together so it feels safe. Of course this is all done while Dad stays home to hand out candy and admires all the great costumes and tries to scare the older kids with his scarry Costume every year....Good Luck this year honey and to all the great families out there participating in this year's Halloween festivities whether traditional or low key. I grew up in Northen California in the 70's & 80's. While my friends were going door to door trick or treating, we were riding our horses through the streets. Fast forward many years and while stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC my daughter and I rode our horses through our neighborhood in Raeford, NC. Such great memories for me and a great way for my kids to see how mom did it+

When my son was young he and I would both be in scary costumes to hand out candy when children came to our home. My son had recorded the sound of a creaking door and a scary laugh, which he would play as soon as the door bell rang. The children were always surprised, and somewhat scared to see a child and adult in costumes, plus the sounds. Great fun!!!

Our neighbors will gather at the end of one of our driveways (we rotate this every year). We have plastic cauldron with dry ice producing smoke with the candy dish on the inside. We dare the children to stick their hands in the smoking cauldron to get their candy. For the adults who are trick or treating with their children are offered hot toddies or wine.

My sister and I used to look forward to toasting the pumpkin seeds while we carved pumpkins. That was something just her and I did together growing up. Since her passing, I have kept that going by sharing memories/silly stories of her and I with her daughter and my girls. I think that is now their favorite tradition for Halloween.

Celebrate a Latin heritage with Dia de los Muertos on Halloween. Tradition calls for a family picnic in the cemetary to honor friends and family members who have passed. Graves are decorated with marigolds and black eyed susans. It is a festive and happy celebration with rejoicing and appreciation.

I prepare a dish playfully named Spider Egg Soup. It is a delicious Spinach and chicken soup with small ball pasta. Years ago while living in Rota, Spain, I needed to prepare a quick yet hearty dish for the kids before the started their Halloween activities. As I was cooking, I noticed that I did not have egg noodles for my soup so I substituted pastina. As soon as I place the bowls of soup in front the kids they yelled, “You made spider eye soup?” I immediately said, “Happy Halloween! Now, eat up!” This became our traditional Halloween meal every year. My oldest child is 24 yrs. old and still calls home for the recipe. Happy Halloween!!!

When my girls were young we made an annual trip to the “Charlie Brown Pumpkin Patch” a local farm that grew pumpkins, squash and gourds for the fall holidays. There were hay bales for climbing on and scarecrows to take pictures with. But above all the fun things to see and do, was the wheel barrow ride to the pumpkin field to pick out the pumpkins for Halloween and Daddy’s homemade pumpkin pie that would grace our Thanksgiving dinner table. One particular year stands out, as my husband had lost his job and money was very tight. The girls were asked to choose between having Halloween jack o lanterns or pie for Thanksgiving. They chose to decorate the pumpkins with magic markers AND savor them in pie later, we had the best of both holidays!

The one I remember the most was when my son and I, one Halloween after a deployment, sat on the front porch of the house dressed ln life like APE suits. We would not move, even when they would walk up to us, then it was on. At the same time we would scare the Trick or treaters. We used the count system, once they pasted a point we would count to a 100 and both move at the same time. It was not long before the whule community was taking pictures of us. My son and I both have this picture on our walls... Great times with my son when deployed so often...

Our family gets together and we all pick out our own pumpkin to carve an head to my house. If you can’t carry it you can’t carve it (for the little ones) After we carve and pass judgement on this years winners and losers and almost always ends up in a pumpkin guts fight with everyone ending up covered in goo and seeds. Typically have one or two pumpkins come up in the backyard the next year and I try and care for them but always fail.

When I was a child me and my gang of friends participated in OPERATION " CAPTURE CANDY" ! We were a highly motivated unit. As part of the M & M DIVISION we would move out at 19 hundred under the cover of darkness. We used various costumes for camouflage in order to blend in among the locals. We attacked our targets ready for HAND to BAG action. We had carefully mapped out our primary objectives, but we were also fully prepared for any targets of opportunity. When I hit the retirement age. , required by Trick or Treat regulation - #1968 code of conduct, I switched allegiance to the other side . In approximately one week I will be envolved in a counter offensive appropriately called " OPERATION BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE". The only thing I miss from my previous unit is that we had sweeter rations . (and plenty of it). With respect RONBOUSMC.

Our family sets up all of our outside home decorations for Halloween every year on the 1st of October. It’s kind of like when you see a family in a Christmas movie gathered near a fireplace with warm cookies, listening to soft music while decorating a Christmas tree… Except there’s a bit more chaos as we yell to one another about positioning, outside in the wind, spreading spider webs and fake blood over tombstones while playing classic rock hits from Metallica and the like; Melts my heart.

My favorite tradition is simply to decorate the entry way along with scraping the seeds out of a pumpkin then salt and bake them while carving the pumpkin to add to the entry decorations. Finally, enjoying the display while munching on the salted seeds and watching a candle flickering in the pumpkin.

Like LTC Chu when I was younger I would elaborately decorate our house to include spooky music and experience stations (ie. hidden bowl of grapes, bowl of spaghetti noodles for hand squishing & guessing substances, peekhole box to look in and guess what you see...) before reaching me dressed in a witches costume stirring a big pot of dried ice where the kiddies would receive their candy and sometimes a small prize for guessing correctly. Now we participate in fall festivals that helps remind children of thankfulness and the love of Jesus Christ. Both a lot of fun!!

For Halloween, my neighborhood sets up games for the trick treaters to play. The games range from ring toss, to bean bag toss. After they are finished they get candy. Also we make hotdogs, and nachos for the tricker treaters and their parents. We normally make around 3000 plus hotdogs, 5 gallons of nacho cheese and 6 extra large bags of tortilla chips. We supply bottles of water too. In all the kids and the parents all seem to have a really good time. As we do passing out the food and having the games for the kids.

What memories. We grew from our family of 4 children. As they grew we started inviting our extended family and their children.
As more years past eventually it included our neighbors and their children.
We built a scary gauntlet from the side walk to our front door with all the lights and sounds as children past through.
once in the house children would receive treats, creepy crawler food snacks and Monster Milk.
Like Easter instead of egg hunt we'd have mini-plastic pumpkin hunts hiding them in piles of leaves containing treats
Have a blindfolded Halloween candy taste test to guess the candy. Pumpkin Corn Hole toss
In the back yard we had bales of hay. Children would rest, eat snacks and the night would end with lottery prizes for best costumes.

I will be 85 years old in a few days. My wife has been 85 for several months. At our ages the Tradition of turning off our outside entry lights as a sign of our wish to not participate in the Halloween tradition is a great relief. We promoted the tradition all our lives and as we raised our son, but as we moved past 75 or so, we found that our mobility was hindered and the constant getting up and answering the doorbell was very tiring. We have noted and participated in online Halloween gifting resources for friends and family, especially the Girl Scouts of America.

I loved dressing the kids up in costume and walking the same neighborhood every year. One neighbor fed everyone hot dogs on the grill and another had hot apple cider. It was so much fun. Now, the kids are grown but we still walk the neighborhood on Halloween to see all the kids dressed up.

Making my face as frightening as possible, I would put a calf brain in a bowl and pour some tomato juice over it (you can get brains from a butcher shop). Then I pass out candy after holding the bowl out and asking in my creepiest voice "Do you want any brains?" It saved on candy because many were too freaked out to accept any.

I have the house decorated all nice and inviting. However, when you walk up the cameral alerts me and the dry ice puts out smoke. Then I run out with my mike under my mask blasting through a 10000-watt speaker. As I run out in my mask, all the lights start blinking. It even scars adults.

Every year since my kiddos were little we would have a Halloween party. It started with just inviting family, then throughout the years turned into family, friends, and neighbors. It became so big that we added several activities. We have games, pumpkin decorating, portrait station, haunted hayride with scavenger hunt for the littles & of course regular haunted hayride for the older ones. Lightly haunted grainery with trick or treating for the little ones & haunted house for the older kids. The parents or other adults doing the scares! Now that my kids are older the tradition continues with them doing the scaring! & myself and my husband are able to help out a bit but also get to sit back and enjoy watching the fun!

A good friend each HALLOWEEN would create a graveyard on his front lawn. He would also dress as a zombie. While in costume he was checking the graveyard, and noticed a woman and young child walking towards his lawn. He laid down as a joke near a headstone to see their reaction. The women brought her kid onto the lawn and remarked how great the setup was. He sat up and said thank you. The women and child ran screaming down the block. I'll use the UE Megaboom Bluetooth speakers hidden in the shrubs and a dog growling/barking sounds to have the kids looking nervous when they come up. Big glass front door and my Malinois is sitting in there monitoring them. LOL. The kids will say "I ain't scared"

Every year we drive up to Salem the the night before stay the night so we can spend all of Halloweeen in Salem. We start off enjoying all the shops until festivities kick off. We have dinner and we end the night with the graveyard tour witch we continue to enjoy year after year. We usually are already talking about next year on the drive home.

Working in a Haunted House. At the end of the Haunted house maze as people are about to exit the maze I start a Chainsaw as the customers are about to exit the house. I come out with a mask and bloody clothing behind them and chasing them on a path going through the woods to the parking lot.

Dressing up for shock value, ie: A fm-Hooker when i was younger with my fairy dressed girlfriend [when cars honked i pulled up my skirt and told them to "eat #ic*"]; A scare-crow , and i stayed motionless by the candy basket to "BOO(kinda_thing"]; A few times a Deamon or look-alike thing just too stare and smile at people while waving(occasionally); I've yet to do the one i've been keeping in mind for years, just could never afford the $250 contacts... i wanna be an green-alien [instead of a gray -watcher_class.. LOL]! Although i'm really hoping on a Halloween-Ball invitation\arrangement to\at Great-Mistakes or DA,VA or (like 1 other place), but i might need someone to talk to Bebb for me^-^.

We have a haunted house for the community children and families that I volunteered at. I was the lady vampire that would greet the people as they came out of the elevator into the haunted house. The expression on the many faces was wonderful. Some would laugh,some would cry and try to run. It was a lot of work but all had so much fun and it was free for the community.

Most years, barring hurricanes and pandemics, Lambertville, NJ has a Halloween parade and a town-wide trick or treating event. Thousands of people participate in one of the largest TOT parties outside of NYC. It's always fun when neighbors and friends get together and party on Halloween!

Attending Western Governors University's (WGU)'s Halloween cubical walk. The whole building decorates for Halloween and they have contests per work group and floor for who decorated the best. It's a perfect environment to take your kids "trick-or-treating". Its indoors and safe and the kids get to see everyone dressed up in costume and the whole building decked to the "9's" in Halloween garb.

Halloween happens to be one of my favorite time of the year the best part is pretending to be someone you're not and having fun with it my kind of idea of dressing up is the period of the Renaissance pretending your son European aristocrat like going to a ball or meeting your princess or that era it I find it exciting and enjoy with family and friends in a adult party setting and it's only once a year be someone you'll always wanted to be and most of all become an actor and be that character that to me is the most exciting thing to do considering what's going on in today's world is good to let loose I pretend for a day to be somebody you're not and then again could be part of your ancestry that's the best part of Halloween enjoying together because tomorrow is not promised to us happy Halloween to all

My favorite Halloween tradition is quite controversial and possibly viewed as morally wrong, but my papa taught it to me when I was a kid in the 90's.. Our tradition for Halloween goes if you're out trick-or-treating on Halloween night, and come across a house that has it's lights on(any lights at all) but they don't answer their door for handing out candy... YOU ARE THEN FREE TO PUMPKIN SMASH, ANY AND ALL JACKOLATERNs ON THEIR PROPERTY..

When I was growing up in Detroit I remember, usually a few days before Halloween, visiting my grandparents that lived in Fowlerville. They would take my younger brother and older sister to a family friend's farm where we would all pick a pumpkin which we would take back to Papa and Nana's house where we would scoop out the pumpkins. Nana would take the mess we made and roast the seeds and use the stringy/slimy guts for puree which she would use for all kinds of things. Of course, we kids would have a challenge as to who could carve the best/scariest pumpkin. Nana always made sure we got some smaller sweeter pumpkins so that she could make her (world-famous) pumpkin pie. YumYum Life seemed so much more simple and peaceful 60+ years ago. I miss those days.

Favorite tradition no matter where I find myself is to not have a costume, and then on Halloween day make one from existing items found at home. Imagination and finding the right clothing bits make it a lot of fun and then to see what we create after all that is the best. And then driving over to friends' houses to surprise them is the next step. We always laugh so hard with the surprises.
