We went straight to the field, with nothing more than basic issue boots and snow on the ground. Upon return I went to the Augsburg PX and bought a pair of cold weather Herman Survivors. I rotated them regularly, but always wore them in the field. They lasted more than 15 years and they finally wore out from the inside. They sucked for road marches, just too heavy.
