Its got everything, amazing sets, memorable characters that actually develop during the story, and aside from the force, it is a moderately believable universe with political corruption, crime, greed, and farm boys bulls-eyeing womp rats with their T-16s. Starship Troopers is awesome, but I feel the acting just doesn't hold up. Aliens is too rape-y and 2001: A Space Odyssey is too out there. Now, when I watch certain scenes from the movie again, I can't help but wonder how humanity is able to cross almost the entire distance of the known galaxy in gigantic starships, only to drop millions of troopers armed with guns? It takes 50 troops to take on 1 bug on Klendathu and the bugs out number the troopers at least 1,000 to 1, forcing Earth to flee Klendathu. Yet, on Planet P a company sized element is able to take on a whole swarm of bugs with the same weaponry, and now 1 trooper can take on 50 to 100 bugs as they come swarming in. How exactly this discrepancy is reconciled , no one knows.

Having co-ed showers would be GREAT but they never explain how they over come basic human nature. Having women like that (good looking ones too) in a public shower fill with young guys is just asking for trouble.

Probably the greatest scene in that movie was when they landed on Klendathu. What exactly that one dude was thinking when he broke ranks and ran up to a whole gaggle of Bugs all by himself was both hilarious and just downright silly. Clearly it takes hundreds of rounds to take down just a single bug, but he somehow thinks he can run up to dozens and lay into them, then gets torn apart. Not even the most jacked up Army Reserve unit in the whole US Army would have any one doing anything that silly. Even an Admin Clerk would have more tactical sense than that. But these guys are all suppose to be superior military men conditioned in a boot camp like indoctrination process that would be considered just slightly less brutal than Spartan infantry training.

But all these things are what makes the movie great too. Starship troopers will never die. Have you watched it recently? Sheesh. Star Wars had a good story the first time I saw it. Repeating the same story in six sequels is boring. Aliens is the best on this list. Starship Troopers would have been better had it been produced by the Monty Python Flying Circus people (complete with those primitive animations and coconut shells).

Now for the best SciFi Film: (drumroll) Dune Response by CPT Jack Durish made Mar 5 at 2016 6:56 PM 2016-03-05T18:56:42-05:00 2016-03-05T18:56:42-05:00 A1C Private RallyPoint Member 1357457

Any movie that was used and narrated on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
