What's is everyone's outlook on their military jobs compared to a civilian job or what are your plans to do when you get out

I look at people in the 16 yrs I've been serving and barely see a third of prior service doing what they did while serving or even close what they did

I could never have found a job in the private sector comparable to my military job unless the airlines started shooting their competitors down - so when they called the war off I had to find something completely different.

In the army I was a 12 hotel ( construction supervisor. When I tell people I did construction in the Army they can't wrap their heads around that the Army has Construction. After being retired for 18 months , I still can't find a carpentry job or should I say no one won't give me the time if day but yet my life was on the line conducting construction missions all over Iraq.

I'm still working in IT. That's what I did for the majority of my 20 years in the Navy and have done nothing but IT work since I retired.

I was an Intel Analyst, and I do Administration/Operations/Management now. i do quite a lot of the same things I do now that I did then.

It's a case of looking for the "overlap." I was a dispatcher for a while (a couple years, plus secondary duties now), and once I wrapped my head around the idea that Technicians in the field are a lot like Recon/Snipers in the field, it just clicked.
