A new proposal offers a lump sum "transition" payment, followed by lower retirement checks. What's your opinion?

The first problem is people continue to compare the military to civilian sector jobs but there is no comparison. The people who think this is a good idea are young kids who have no idea about finances. I don't know how people don't see that this will kill the long term retention efforts the Army is looking for.

Maj Telesco, like everything else, when the bullets are flying, just about anyone who can shoot back will do. When it's time to pull the plug, any reason will do. Nothing is forever.

SMSgt Thomas...agree...however, whenever gov offers you a "deal' on retirement, you are likely losing something over time while the gov benefits. Maybe in this instance, that is a win-win for both .
