A Navy commander who served as the executive officer of a submarine repair facility in Georgia was relieved of duty on Aug. 24, the Navy announced Monday.
Cmdr. Vincent J. Wood, who was second in charge at the Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay, was removed from his position because of an ongoing investigation into allegations of personal misconduct, the Navy said.
Wood, who had held his job since April, was removed by Capt. Gunter Braun, commanding officer of the facility. Wood has been administratively reassigned to Submarine Group 10 at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
According to the Navy Times, Wood is accused of having an affair with a married civilian employee. The Times said he violated a protective order that required he stay away from the woman.
Quoting a police report, the Times said the two were found together on Aug. 23, and the woman's husband got into a fight with Wood, who was then hospitalized. Wood suffered "a large contusion to his left eye, several knots on his head, an abrasion to the bridge of his nose, a small cut under his nose, and abrasions to both knees," according to the report that the Times quoted.

Actually nothing new when it comes to matters of the heart, so to speak. Its just that now all these people are being hold to a much higher standard of conduct with absolutely no regard for ability to fight our real enemies.

SFC A.M. Drake in the internet age, anything that is done is going to be readily available.

Affairs are a sad but all too common part of military culture. I am not making a morality statement, I am simply stating a fact. I wasn't out of boot camp before I started hearing stories about the "widows of westpac" and other sordid tales of sailors and wives hooking up for boot knocking as soon as one battle group deploys and another returns home.

I think its a long term problem that has been kept quiet over the years and now with instant posting to Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and so many other sites when you cough and don't cover your mouth someone is probably getting the video or photo and thinking about how to post it.
I am fairly certain that everyone knows or remembers back in the day how things like this would happen and the person involved would swiftly and quietly be reassigned and dealt with accordingly.
Seems when something happens now its dragged out forever and thus the individual in question, because actions by they command are so slow in coming, decides to dig their hole deeper by doing more ignorant stuff.
Lets get back to allowing commanding officers to have the authority to deal with these situations quickly, stop having to run everything up to higher levels. Taking authority away from CO's erodes good order and discipline.

Good for the civilian! As for the commander.....stupid is as stupid does. He fully earned his relief for cause. Too bad the Nav will prolly let the scum bag retire.........
