What’s authorized as a PPE face mask when in uniform (e.g. scarves and bandannas)?

There’s a bit of confusion around this. With people getting yelled at for being out of uniform, for wearing a scarf. But trying to adhere to regulations in my unit.

What does your NCO chain say? Are they getting yelled at by members of your unit or by others on post? There should be either a unit or post policy on authorized face masks.

Most units have set policy up to the Post/Base by now. This should be a non issue. Ask your command what the policy is.

To sum it up: neutral earth colors, OCP, and neck gaiters.
Not authorized: scarves, cut up t shirts, brightly colored masks, masks with any writing or pictures on them.

We got two of the new Multicam cloth masks issued last week. I still (when required) wear my woodland camo commercial mask with filter and vents, as it allows me to inhale and exhale more freely.

Go go the store and buy a few simple black or dark blue cloth masks, make it so you can hand wash them. Problem solved. I’m sure that don't want masks with clown faces on them, or mustaches etc. Keep it simple and dull in color, or go ask your Company Gunny, or 1st Sgt.

While there is no regulation covering this, you should observe what most others are wearing and wear the same. If you are really in doubt - ask you First Sergeant for guidance.
