What restaurant do you miss when you were a kid?

I miss my mom's kitchen! Though she still spools me when I take the kids to visit there are days I wish I could come back from work and have some of her good cooking.

Since my parents believed in cooking everything at home, I'd be happy with just about anything, but Mickey D's was a childhood favorite. I can still remember the signs where they were still in the hundreds of thousands served.

Not so much any restaurant but more what they have. I miss being able to get Chocolate Soda's everywhere. Thankfully Mely's Ice Cream in Prairie Village and Winstead's everywhere in Kansas City Metro still does them. They know me at the one at 435 and Roe for my Breakfast Order that Includes a Chocolate Soda.

I remember the bright orange roof of Howard Johnson's restaurant- in the early 1960's it was a special treat when my parents took us out to eat at Howard Johnson's Sgt Tom Cunnally, SCPO David Lockwood
I really enjoyed the ice cream there.

Tubbys, a sub shop in St. Clair Shores, MI and Big Boy. Two great places.
And I miss the old style McDonalds from the 60's and 70's when they cooked real food, no flash heating.

We had an A&W Root Beer store that offered root beer floats and other food items. I think they are all gone - the stores, not the floats (we make them at home now).

and for a late night meal, you could not beat the Tapadero Truck Stop on Highway 281 north of Edinburg, TX.

Gino's. Gino Machetti was a defensive end with the Baltimore Colts during the late 1950s and capitalized on his popularity by opening a chain of hamburger joints. They were cheap and fast like McDonalds, but unlike McDonald's they served up good food. (Imagine a hamburger, fries, and coke for $1 - Of course, not even Gino could do that today). His chain predated McDonald's arrival in Maryland and he combated their intrusion into "his market" by opening an outlet on either side of McDonald's. He later merged with (Alan) Ameche's which was a little more upscale and also popular. Funny but Johnny Unitas was the only Colt who didn't do well with his name brand. His Colt (Bowling) Lanes failed quickly as did other ventures.

Vel Mar. A small mom and pop drive-in and for the same reason. They had great root beer, burgers and hot dogs. The people who owned it were also really nice.
