What recommendations/insight do you have for a Navy sailor looking at transitioning to Army Warrant Officer (for 153A)?

Good for you and the Navy! I'm not a flight Warrant but I know Army WO aviators are the best due to their actual time spent flying vs pulling other duties. If the Navy keeps that in mind they'll do fine. Interesting.

The metrics to be competitive are high, make the best impression you can, your metrics that matter, APFT score, SIFT score, GT Score, College credit accumulated or degree, the resume and the letters of recommendation. An error free packet goes a long way with a great photo also. The packets are incredibly competitive, so your best forward is all you can do.

Outside of everything else that has already been said, I would suggest starting on a packet well in advance as it can be a long process. Also, make sure you thoroughly research what is required for the actual job so you'll know well in advance if it's for you or not.
