What RallyPoint topics do you purposely stay away from? Why?

I've steered away from rhetorical questions that could cause for question my stand on equality. So many people try to make something out of what is NOT said rather than taking what IS said at face value. I've changed the tone of my conversations quite a bit from my first year on RP. It just wasn't worth it and I love how some love to argue online rather than use this for what it is worth - a DISCUSSION forum.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member, I tend to stay away from politics, religion, and topics of a sexual nature (other than SHARP). I do this for three reasons. First, I have always believed that those three topics can be very volatile and tend to spiral into some very nasty dialogue. Second, since I have been a member of RallyPoint, I have not had anything constructive to offer on any of those three topics. And third, I personally do not see much professional development value in either of those topics.

I have lost faith in my memory, so will post tongue in cheek most the time. Now I do get irritated enough to question and slam the proggies on occasion.

The "Black Lives Matter" forums were the only legal / political forums I've cared to participate in. Even then, I cared very little for the extremist and far side positions I read.

I don't care about the topic. I do care about anything that gives me the feeling I'd be arguing with an idiot. Those are the ones that pounce on comments that point to a spectrum of some like "A" and some like "B". They get upset that "B" was even mentioned.

Was surprised to see a topic listing for politics as you say usually those discussions are not discussions but affirmations of political faith and beliefs regardless of what anyone else thinks or says. But since there is a politics topic I try to confine my comments to that particular forum and keep my name calling to a minimum. I also agree with religion, to the extent of commenting on keeping religion separate from politics, and must be careful when addressing topics involving gender. Also have to avoid topics of current immediate interest such as uniforms, PT belts, weight standards, promotion requirements, medals, etc which I have no current knowledge of or experience with.

I avoid religious and most political discussions. There is often enough emotion to spark poor behavior, and quite frankly, no matter what you say, you are not going to change the mind of the person you disagree with...not in these areas anyway.

These discussions bring nothing of value to this forum

I avoid poliitics like the plague. People get so mada if you disagree with their point of view or they get ticked off at my point of view...so I try to avoid that topic. That and religion...

My New Year's resolution is to stop commenting on the ones purposely meant to be controversial and elicit arguments. There are plenty that are politically charged from both sides. Pretty much though, I see what has popped up and if I like the question, I will answer.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member Honestly, I'm getting tired of all the Women in Combat type threads. Everything that can be said, HAS been said, but it seems someone starts a new one every couple of weeks. And really, there's only 3 real viewpoints: 1. women should be in combat PERIOD. 2. Women should be in combat without lowering standards. 3. women shouldn't be in combat at all. How many times can we beat those three stances?

Presidential election questions. People don't respond well to ideals that don't align with theirs. Politics and specifically the presidential election take this to the next level.

The only topics I don't usually go in to are the ones I don't think interest me in any way. Otherwise I will usually at least read through the posts and sometimes throw my in put in. Now I will abandon topics if they start to get ugly and/or lose my interest and that goes for any category.

Religion, politics, race, and relationships. Unless someone comes to me for advice, or they pose an opinion-based question, I avoid it. Those topics create nothing but drama and arguments. It's just not worth it.

Political wording or questions should not be on RP! You seen the new policy the POTUS signed in to office about military making comments on social media and government as well.
