There are tabbed Sappers and then there are Sappers. A tabbed Ranger is someone who attended Ranger school and earned their Ranger Tab. Ranger school is a leadership school. So basically if you see a tabbed Ranger, that person is a successful graduate of Ranger School who has earned their tab. Now a scrolled Ranger is someone who serves with the 75th Ranger Regiment. They are an elite light infantry special operations unit. They are what you would call "bad a55." No disrespect to the tabbed Rangers or Sappers but there's really no comparison. Their line of work is so different. Now when it comes to Sappers, there are tabbed Sappers and there are Sappers. Tabbed Sappers are people who have attended the Sapper Leader Course in Ft. Leonard Wood..... A tab is a tab a Scroll is a way of life....Response by SGT Aric Lier made Apr 15 at 2018 4:32 PM2018-04-15T16:32:50-04:002018-04-15T16:32:50-04:00SGT Joseph Gunderson3546253<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Infantry and armor MOSs can also benefit if they can get a slot. Schools like sapper are usually mission dictated though. Most units are not going to throw money at sending a soldier to a school like this unless they are a unit of engineers, the soldier is an engineer, or the unit has an MTOE slot for a Sapper qualified soldier.Response by SGT Joseph Gunderson made Apr 15 at 2018 5:33 PM2018-04-15T17:33:52-04:002018-04-15T17:33:52-04:00SFC Kelly Fuerhoff3546538<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Any MOS can go to Sapper School. I know a female medic who went while I was in my first unit (which was a combat EN BN). She excelled in it. I think she's a Reserve officer now.Response by SFC Kelly Fuerhoff made Apr 15 at 2018 7:40 PM2018-04-15T19:40:27-04:002018-04-15T19:40:27-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4132745<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I had an interest in going to Sapper school at one time. That was prior to being deployed to Iraq. The jest of the idea was to get some "street credibility" before going down range with others in my unit who had already completed a year in country when I had not. Mind you most of the units I belonged to were Rear Echelon types and were far from the battlefield. It would have been nice to have gone, but as a Satellite operator/maintainer (31S) I would have been at a disadvantage in the course as it relates to battlefield tactics and leadership. The course would have been nice if nothing more than good field experience and points for promotion. It would have been doubtfull that any of my units would have paid the bill to attend the course. Put in the paperwork and see what happens I say. But, make sure you are physically prepared for the challenge!!Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 16 at 2018 5:21 PM2018-11-16T17:21:14-05:002018-11-16T17:21:14-05:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4152084<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you graduated from 12B AIT, that should be more than enough to wear that tab. They do the job everyday, but instead the give it to a medic who has attended a 28 day school. Makes no sense. That's like spitting in the face of all the real 12B who have been down range and preform the duties of a real Sapper.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 23 at 2018 2:34 PM2018-11-23T14:34:46-05:002018-11-23T14:34:46-05:002018-04-15T16:28:00-04:00
