Swords over hand guns (never run out of blade, but you can run out of bullets). Sloping terrain down to a creek or river, with our backs to it, allowing rising fire from the bunker/house, creating a natural barier on your back side with an escape plan. Any elevated position that you can secure will keep the deadies off of you (think a castle or prison) since these zombies have lost the ability to climb.

Fast, WWZ zombies? Get somewhere isolated: out to sea, underground (Cheyenne Mountain would be nice), etc where they can't swarm you.

And above all, WEAR BODY ARMOR! Zombies have teeth and nails. Anything that teeth and nails can't penetrate will work as body armor. A firefighter's bunker gear would work great. Or get a shield and practice Roman Legion shield formations. I watch these Zombie shows and shake my head that people haven't thought of stuff like that. I guess Zombieism strikes the smart folks first and leaves the dumb ones....Response by LTC Paul Labrador made Aug 28 at 2014 5:43 PM2014-08-28T17:43:17-04:002014-08-28T17:43:17-04:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member220586

Islands are always an excellent choice, if you can get one. Problem is there are a lot more people than there are islands. Fresh water can also be tricky, although setting up a water purification site can solve that one.

Mountains, in and of themselves, probably wouldn't help too much. Caves, on the other hand, provide you with a very sturdy shelter to guarantee nothing's coming through the walls. Pick one with only two or three entrances and you have an easily barricaded home with multiple potential exits. If you can find a cave with an underground stream running through it, you're practically golden. Pick one that's not too high up on the mountain and you should have plenty of hunting and trapping nearby, and setting up a portion of the area with hydroponics can ensure enough fresh plant-stuff to ward off illness. Getting light to the plants could be tricky, but can be solved with a good system of mirrors or even rigging up some UV lighting powered by a generator (although there you're starting to get into multiple points of failure).Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 28 at 2014 6:02 PM2014-08-28T18:02:25-04:002014-08-28T18:02:25-04:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member220594

Wear my PT belt. Personally, the idea of an economic collapse and failure of all the "just in time" logistics that provide food to our major population centers makes this question pretty relevant from my perspective. I think it likely the folks caught in those population centers will devolve dramatically down Maslow's hierarchy, and may well become a sort of thinking zombie - at the very least, extremely dangerous threats willing to do virtually anything to survive.

During the initial outbreak / E&E phase, I think the keys are firepower and ammunition with a solid supply of energy bars and water to get to a place where the zombies ain't - I'm thinking the Hoover Dam might not meet that requirement. I'm talking going off the grid in a "unabomber" sort of way here. Idaho, S. Dakota, Wyoming, some places in the South...all places with enormous open spaces.

Assuming you get out, the challenge becomes managing the swarms - individually, zombies aren't much of a threat to a committed/trained/equipped/alert person. In swarms, they are much more dangerous. This argues in favor of banding together in groups of survivors - which really starts getting dicey given all the "rules" will have been thrown out the window. Tough nut to crack. My current plan is bringing extended family together in one location provisioned for farming and hunting with reliable water. Doubles as a great way to spend a vacation should the zombies never come.Response by Lt Col Fred Marheine, PMP made Feb 17 at 2015 11:40 AM2015-02-17T11:40:51-05:002015-02-17T11:40:51-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member482733

Trip those faster than me.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 18 at 2015 3:12 AM2015-02-18T03:12:50-05:002015-02-18T03:12:50-05:00PO2 David Hagwood564759

I've been playing the game Dying Light lately so I think I got this!Response by PO2 David Hagwood made Apr 1 at 2015 1:11 AM2015-04-01T01:11:13-04:002015-04-01T01:11:13-04:002014-08-27T19:28:50-04:00
