Arrivals and departures. There are too many areas of an airport where people can just wait around. Up until now, security only checks those boarding planes. Maybe we need metal detectors to enter the building at all. Like we have for court houses and capitol buildings. But I know it's an expense to obtain the equipment needed. DIA has 5 levels with 3-4 doors each on the west and east sides. That's a lot of metal detectors. Unrealistic? Depends on who has to pay for it.Response by PO3 Sandra Gomke made Jun 29 at 2016 10:10 AM2016-06-29T10:10:13-04:002016-06-29T10:10:13-04:00CPT Jack Durish1673840<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Asking for opinions is a dangerous thing. You're bound to accumulate a pile (and we all know how it will smell). Here's my contribution... What happened at the airport in Turkey is another in a long line of tragedies. What can be done about it? I don't know, but I wish someone would at least begin thinking about it. Sadly, our President has insisted that we ignore it rather than offend anyone. Thus, political correctness chains us to a future of more tragedies. We can only protect ourselves and our families as best we can (avoiding target rich environments and using situational awareness to not make easy targets of ourselves) and hope that chance will save us from that which we cannot avoid.Response by CPT Jack Durish made Jun 29 at 2016 10:17 AM2016-06-29T10:17:55-04:002016-06-29T10:17:55-04:00SPC David S.1673875<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>This is a a suicide vest problem and all suicide vests should be banned? <br /><br />I think the first step is in admitting that within the religion of Islam there are individuals with an extremists ideology that are willing and wanting to carry out deadly terrorist attacks.Response by SPC David S. made Jun 29 at 2016 10:25 AM2016-06-29T10:25:07-04:002016-06-29T10:25:07-04:00Lt Col Private RallyPoint Member1673884<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Tactically, it's brilliant. I'm not condoning the action of the enemy but your must respect the tactic. The point of airport security is to protect the planes. The point of terrorism as a tactic is to change people's status quo. The achieved this, as a result, security with extend beyond the entrance of an airport and will expand. This will raise the cost and affect the calculus of the government.Response by Lt Col Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 29 at 2016 10:26 AM2016-06-29T10:26:16-04:002016-06-29T10:26:16-04:00MCPO Roger Collins1674009<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I will guarantee that if this happens to a large USA Airport more than once, there will be a resolution, but as we all know the unintended consequences aspect comes in. Everything we do creates a bigger backup somewhere in the airport, that is where they will hit. As noted, suicide vests are one of the most useful tool for these nuts. If we can insist on removing your shoes, we certainly can do the same when you enter the major airport building, along with all carry on and checked luggage being run through the sniffer. What ever action is taken, it will be using a sledge hammer to kill a very powerful gnat.Response by MCPO Roger Collins made Jun 29 at 2016 10:51 AM2016-06-29T10:51:42-04:002016-06-29T10:51:42-04:00Cpl Mark A.
