What is your opinion on Middle Eastern Refugees, both to the US and Europe?

I am prompted to ask this because a lot of what I've heard in and around the workplace have been from people who are obviously pretty ill-informed OR are simply too caught up in being a "Warrior For Jesus" to come up with anything else other than, "MOOSLAMS R BAD." Personally today, I over heard a Sergeant First Class talking to a group of Junior Enlisted about how, "Muslims are a peaceful religion, aside for the several million that aren't" While most of the insuring conversation was unintelligible at best, there was quite a bit of, "We should just go in and start kicking down doors" and other things of that nature. Of course I feel like these responses to a statement like that are out of pure ignorance. Your average Christian will be quick to point out that those crazy death cults chugging down that Kool-aid are outliers. The same can be said of organisations like ISIS. But that's not the actual question here. I'm talking about the every day people that are attempting to flee and get into the US and Europe. Personally, I'm against it. Ethnic Arabs have, for the most part (In Europe) been extremely resistant to assimilation into the culture of the Nation they ended up in. (Just look at Sweden seriously) And before someone tries to accuse me of racism or something along those lines, my family fled Iran in the 80s when Iraq invaded. But when they got to the United States, guess what? They assimilated. Hell, my Dad ended up joining the Army later down the line. Anyways, I just wanted to know what everyone elses thoughts are on the whole refugee situation AND what they've heard their coworkers say on the matter.

Anyone who lets millions from a different culture flood into their country is asking to have their country taken over. Europe is already paying the price and so shall we.

Those "outliers" control half of Iraq and half of Syria and are making major inroads in throughout the ME.

The problem is most of these so called refugees are military aged men... Where are the women and children? Why are these men fleeing their homelands?

In my opinion I believe we should accept some refugees that choose to come to the U.S. but seeing as they are coming from what is essentially a war zone, they should under-go an extensive background check for any relation to known radical Islamist's and potential that they will bring to our society( such as doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, etc...) . If we do let them in then I think we (as the U.S.) should come up with a program to assist them in starting their new lives and adapting to the American way of life. Said program could have qualified personnel go check on them periodically to review how well they are adjusting. That's just an idea being thrown out on a whim, it just seems wrong to me to turn away the innocent people that are trying to leave a war torn country behind them. I think it would be beneficial to our country in strengthening foreign relations and actually addressing the issue with some humanity and rational. In essence turn away those associated with known or suspected radicals and accept those that have something to offer to our great country. Those that are associated with radicals can go f*** off back to the Middle East to get bombed for all I care.

I generally don't participate in threads like this because there's no point. However, the tone you set in your initial question is positive enough, hopefully we can actually have a civilized discussion.

I believe in extending mercy, and I believe that we as a nation have an obligation to help. HOWEVER, if you are an able bodied male fleeing the Mideast, I don't feel one lick of sympathy for you. We should accept children under the age of 14, women, and men over the age of 60. Other than that, stay in the Mid East and help rid the world of the scourge.

I am good with anyone who wants to come to America legally, to become an American. Do not however, come to America and expect me to fall over and make my world like the one you left. If that is what you want, either stay, or go back.
