Other countries do this but obviously we don't in the US.<br /><br />The basis is when you turn a certain age, like 21, you enter into some form of government service for a few years. Military service or another form like Peace Corp. Once your time is up, you can either stay in or opt out and you've completed your mandatory civil service requirement. <br /><br />While it's a great idea in theory I think in application its poor idea. First, it's hard to control your in coming numbers which would stretch budgets thin. If it's mandatory, at some point whether they go military or Peace corp, we'd have to pay them. Ouch.<br /><br />But bigger than that is I like that we have an all volunteer service. Not everyone can serve and nor should they.
