There is a closet nerd in everyone. I let mine out a long time ago, and I was never afraid to admit to my geekiness. I flex my ability to speak movie quote fluently, have prior to my military career taken a week off of work to play video games, and can name pretty much every superheroes real name and their mild-mannered alter-ego's profession.

What is your nerdy little secret?

If I have one, it is that I am also an avid Pathfinder (an off-shoot of Dungeons & Dragons) player. I really don't hide it, but that would be it.

Mine is that I was a FarmVille addict for about a year ... played it every free moment. But I quit cold turkey a couple years ago. Those games are extremely addictive! Now I'm off that ... and on RallyPoint!

At least those things. I've been in a few strange situations in which I have been in deep discussions on video game (or otherwise) forums and then run into those individuals at a get together and they are surprised by my appearance and fitness level. I am a huge fitness and healthy eating nut, as well as being in the military, but I am a nerd first.

I think the middle school me wants to still be there, but also does not want to be bullied anymore.

I'm such a geek that I can't pick just one.
1. I read textbooks for fun.
2. I am an "Eternal" badge-holder at DragonCon (a sci-fi multi-genre convention) in Atlanta.
3. I like medieval fairs.
4. I love trivia games.
5. I am still addicted to Candy Crush, though I haven't moved levels in two months.
6. I really badly want to make my own Steampunk costume.
7. LTC Paul Labrador reminded me...I was in marching and concert band as 1st chair clarinet.

I have a couple

1. I know how to sew. I have even used a sewing machine in the past. I have sewn my own patches on in the past.
2. I was in Navy JROTC in high school to avoid gym, because I was the fat kid.
3. I love comics and watch youtube about them. I went to comic com in San diego every year when I lived there.
4. And I read Army TMs, FMs, ADRPs, TC, and just about everything else for fun.
5. I also have the complete series of DBZ and DBZ GT.

The biggest one of all was that I wanted to be a Signal Officer when I commissioned. Infantry was my second choice and got that instead.

I have a 40U server rack in my basement. I just added 2x Nokia IP390's running OpenBSD 5.5 for the redundant router/firewall/VPN systems on the top section of the rack.

I also handle a family-wide VPN network connecting our systems together utilizing the Nokia IP390's as the core routers (at my house) and a combination of dd-wrt or OpenWrt embedded wireless routers for the relatives.

I have a couple. First would be that I am a walking talking movie quote. Nearly every situation reminds me of a movie quote, and for that reason I am compared to DiNozzo from NCIS often.

Second, I am an avid Yu-Gi-Oh player. I started in the spring of 2010, and I've collected several decks since then. Most people that I play tell me that I approach it like a strategy game and each game is a combat for me.

My loved ones kind of cringe when they see that I've noticed a Yu-Gi-Oh collection for sale or something similar.

Remember the days when someone who was enthralled with technology was a "Computer nerd"? Today it's a polar change. Now people snicker behind your back if you don't know how to build a drop-down menu in Excel. I was computer when computer wasn't cool...yeah, I was also outdoorsy and played sports, but there was also a time when I was the only enlisted man in my entire Infantry company who had his own computer.

It’s no secret I am a geek. I’m so much of a geek I brought out the geek in my wife. Got her addicted to Doctor Who and just about any other sci-fi. As for me I am a computer programmer by trade. In my spare time learn new programming languages and operating systems. Absolutely love anything on Nat Geo. And cannot channel surf past “Mr. Magorium Magic Emporium” without watching it.

1. I love super-hero comics, movies, and cartoons. (Captain America and the Avengers have long been my favorite)
2. Star Wars > Star Trek, but I will watch both.
3. I introduced my kids to the LOTR when they were 5 and they are hooked.
4. I was in band/marching band. I played the Baritone and Tuba
5. My guilty pleasure is reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels. The Game of Thrones books are awesome!
6. I have used a Jeopardy template on powerpoint to make several trivia games for my friends and family.
7. I still play video games (albeit not as much as I used to; kids change that)

- I collect records and all sources of music (cassette, CD, iTunes) and have since I was a kid (when dinosaurs roamed the earth). I profess to being be a "musicologist"(music trivia buff)
- I like "Chick Flicks" (romantic comedies) almost as much I like a good military/action movie
- I enjoy going to see Broadway plays in New York (not opera or ballet, however)
- I love dogs and animals of all types and abhor those who abuse them. I see no sport in hunting defenseless animals, if you don't need the food to survive.

Not that any of these are secrets, but plenty of nerdy geekiness:
1) Huge Tolkien fan (some would say fanatic) for over forty years. Have a Tolkien bookcase, not bookshelf;
2) Met my wife at a Science Fiction convention;
3) Scheduled my R&R from Afghanistan in 2011 so we could go to the World Science Fiction convention;
4) Go to Renaissance Faires;
5) Wear costumes at both Science Fiction conventions and Renaissance Faires;
6) Have worked at a Renaissance Faire;
7) Have run role-playing game campaigns in a fantasy world I created.

OK, I admit it....I love SciFi and Marvel Comic type shows and even attended a Trek Conference. But then again, I also like war movies, Disney movies, mysteries and drama, and yes the occasional chic flick, but I'm not big into those. I have fun at Ren Fairs (although I haven't been to one in years) and I actually like going to military balls and dining ins. I played in band in HS (1st chair flute), was in drama, speech competition and FBLA. I'm all geeked out. And just to confuse things, I played volleyball and softball in HS, and VB after HS, I was a cheerleader, and sang small groups in choir. I'm still a geek. Oh well.

1. I spend my free time in the library and have two different cards for different libraries in my area.
2. I love reading books on various topics.
3. I spend my childhood reading a medical book and dictionary to expand my knowledge.

I suppose since everyone else has been so open, I might as well open up and share my inner nerd-y-ness.
First and foremost would be my love of LEGOS, which I have collected and played with since I was about 7 years old. So, for the last 25 years, I have been collecting them and now have had the joy of passing them on to my children, who also love them. In fact they love them so much, they told me they wanted to go to LegoLand, over Disneyland when I get home from this deployment!

The secret that I hide from those in my unit is that I am an avid D&D player (hours upon hours with my brother-in-law and friends) and that I play World of Warcraft. I have actually been playing WoW since it first came out and take great pride in the development of my characters. I in fact own every collector's Edition (except for the first and second ones) that has come out for WoW.

There you go, my nerd-y little secrets. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

I am and always have been a Sci-Fi nerd ever since I saw that first Star Wars movie. (the actual first one, now known as SW IV: A New Hope) But I love all science fiction, from Frank Herbert's novel Dune, to Star Trek, Firefly, Stargate, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, S.M. I have no nerdy secrets. I'm proud of everything I do. I cosplay. I go to DragonCon and other cons. I play video games. I develop video games. I act and direct films. I speak multiple languages. I play D&D. I write. I read. I play music. I also play various sports (very well), I drink beer and whisky, I shoot firearms (also very well), I play paintball, and I have a beard.

I refused to let my military experience become like high school where jock soldiers couldn't hang out with, much less enjoy the same things as, geek soldiers.

I am a science fiction weirdo.. I fabricate, mold, cast and model all sorts of blasters, helmets, armor from all genre of sci fi. I cover it up by building scale models for folks leaving the unit. I think the cat's outta the bag, tho, as more folks in my unit are catching me at the local cons.

I'm pretty nerdy really but oddly enough the things that I consider nerdy have become very mainstream these days. I collected comics for many years, I read sci/fi almost religiously, and don't even get me started on Star Wars (I'd never shut up). I've always been a fan of RPG's, everything from D&D at a table with dice to MMORPG's online like Everquest and such. But my biggest nerd secret would be that I used to spend my weekends running around in armor and a kilt in the SCA. Wife gives me dirty looks whenever I suggest it now, so that's all in my past now LOL.

My nerdness is well hidden beneath my rough exterior.
I played trumpet in marching band, and played French horn in concert band, in high school.
I write internet articles; I self-publish ebooks; I have published a science fiction series. I type over 80 words per minute. I am a computer whiz.
I have watched every episode of Stargate and Star Trek and Star Wars. All of it, every related series and movie and special, plus some amateur fan fiction. And I have read many of the related books.
But I by no means look the part.

I use to play D&D in Jr High when it was AD&D version 1. I use to make swords and armor in my friends shop then have sword fights. I used modems when they had a Baud rate. LOL that is about it. not to nerdy anymore.

Video games. I'm not much into the RPG games, but will try any video game once. I like Candy Crush, but haven't played in a month as it pissed me off (couldn't solve the level I was on). I read a lot of books - classics as well as newer tomes. And I like to create excel spreadsheets to make my life easier. I usually use them for tracking purposes to keep abreast of upcoming appointments for my Soldiers and when evaluations are due. I know it can be done with the myrad of databases the Army has, but not all of them work from home.

I am actually a nerd for Electrophysiology! It's actually what I do in my civilian job! However, explaining it to others, even those who work in this department daily, can be very challenging. What can I say, I like squiggly lines (aka intracardiac electro grams)!

Prior to being a Marine and presidential security and Military Police; all of which are badass and commenddable I was a Wildland Forest Firefighter which is also in IMO pretty badass. Before that I was power lifter and on the wrestling team.

However, I also sang in Choirs for 7 years, including the schools advanced ensemble title Meister Singers. I was quite an accomplished baritone having solo'd many times and performed hundreds of public performances in both a Barbara Shop Quartet and a Jazz Ensemble.

To round out this nerdaholics anonymous presentation I was an avid RPG participant for the better part of 20 years, Comic-Con attendee (when I could still get tickets), and I am an ardent Brown Coat. I would go to Hogwarts if they extended the entry age and believe in the possibility of just about anything.

I feel dirty....

I was kind of hard to label in high school...kinda.

While the jocks were earning their Letters for sports...I was lettering in academics. Thaaaaaaat's right...I lettered in German. But wait, it gets worse...

In high school, (my school had an AWESOME language program!), besides German V, I also took French II, Russian III, Spanish II, and a year of Independent Study of Esperanto.

So as to confuse you even further, I was on the wresting team during my sophomore year, and a highly recruited baseball player my freshman year (I broke my arm the summer between 8th and 9th grade and couldn't make the try-outs), so I never played.

I had long hair and hung with the heads. I wore Izod shirts (gimme a break, it was the '80's), and was accepted by the preps. I got straight A's and labeled a teachers pet. I was perpetually shy around girls, so got labeled a nerd.

I was also a grade A hell raiser. Since I didn't fit anyone's definition, I was invited to every groups party on the weekend. I guess I was a social butterfly before it was cool to be one.

Get that homework done and pass the beer bong! I think that would summarize my high school career nicely. :)

Model airplane geek here...no, not the cool ones that fly, just plastic kits that just sit there and look cool...
Always have been a huge airplane geek, it's why I ended up in Naval Aviation to begin with. I always found that once word got out that I built models, there was always a steady stream of folks wanting me to build a plane for them...a trainer they soloed in, a squadron bird with they're name on it, retirement gifts, I've even built a few Blue Angel jets for folks in that squadron.

I got teased alot by my friends growing up in Detroit. I boxed for almost a decade but spent most of my time alone building RC cars and model cars. fast forward and now I'm helping my kids build their RC cars while I build my hot rods (blown/stroked 79 vette, blown mazda 6, 406 stroker dakota R/T)
I love Marvel and DC but I favor marvel. I keep up with all the shows and movies. Next wolverine or X-men movie better have Omega red and sinister or I'm done! jk....

Not really secrets, but here's what little nerd cred I have.

- I'm a huge fan of the show Stargate SG-1.
- I to this day go back and play the OG Legend of Zelda from the NES era, and I still love it.
- I have been to a convention. RTX 2014. I'll be attending this years RTX too.
- I read and thoroughly enjoy the Halo expanded universe books. Yes, as in books based off of the video game Halo.
- I have a TEOTWAWKI contingency plan, purely because it was so entertaining to think about and draft.

If I were to have a real secret the closest thing would be that I have no idea how to do even the most basic maintenance on a car. Yeah, I can PMCS a HMMWV, but that didn't teach me how to change my own oil much less do anything else. Nerds are mechanically illiterate, right?

Big on Madden and NCAA Football games by EA Sports. I built myself a RB that plays for Arizona and owner of Cleveland in Madden and a RB at LSU (only cause Colorado didn't offer a scholarship) and an Offensive Coordinator at Colorado. I love the management part.

I use a notebook to track my stats in both games.

Oh my goddess where to start.

1: I also play the hell out of pathfinder with a group formed across a couple of the places I've worked. When I'm at the states we all meat up at my house every Tuesday night.

2: I spend way too much time watching educational videos from the likes of Smarter Every Day, Minute Physics, SciShow and Veritasium on YouTube (to name a few, YouTube is essentially solely educational videos for me)

3: Anime, oh so much anime.

4: I read theoretical physics lectures for fun, thoguh I don't exactly have collegiate understanding of them :/

I've been a historical re-enactor for many years-Mostly focusing on the Golden Age of Piracy and the early Rennaisance. I also particpate in "European Martial Arts"...aka sword fighting with rapier and dagger.
