What is your military Lineage?

For me, I had a great grandfather in the Air Force, an uncle in the Navy, and my dad was in the army. What do your families look like in terms of military service?

My father was in the Army in WWII and my older brother was career Air Force during the Cold War

I am the only person in my family to have served. My father came close, he had an ROTC scholarship in college and planned to commission in the Army afterwards, however, issues with having to leave school to take care of his parents prevented that.

Started with the Revolutionary War. Great-great...Uncle was Major General Richard Caswell, 1st and 5th Governor of NC.

From there, I have had family members involved in almost every major war the United States has taken part in (I don't think we had anyone in Desert Storm). I have this all documented somewhere and will see if I can find it later on.

For the past few generations though, it has been specifically Navy. Both grandfathers were Navy in either WW2, Korea, or both.

I don't have my genealogy files in front of me, but a several times great grandfather was in the Revolutionary War, my great grandfather was in the Civil War, a great uncle was in the Army in WWI (made it to France just before the Armistice was signed), my father and uncles were Navy during WWII and Korea, one uncle started out Coast Guard then retired Navy, a cousin in the AF during Vietnam and retired in the 80s, a cousin in the Marine Corps, a nephew in the Navy Seabees. I've personally been Army, AF Reserve and now Navy. We've got all the branches and most of the wars covered.

On the paternal side all the way back to the Mexican War, Bell's have been US Army Infantry. It was about the only place Scots and Irish could get work. Dad was the first sailor, (Career Naval Aviator WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam - 28 years) On the maternal side Papi was Mexican Army Cavalry (horse not armor), Mom was US Army Nurse who served in theater during WWII and Korea, She became naturalized shortly after WWII.

My family; original German immigrant fought for the Penn Volunteers in the American Revolution. Grandmother's Grandfather fought in the Mexican and Civil Wars for Ohio (2nd from right in photo). Father served in the Navy reserves. Uncles served in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. One aunt worked at a German POW camp in Indiana during WWII. Brother retired E-8 in the Indiana Nat'l Guard after years of service in the Army.

Wife has a famous ancestor; Capt. Raphael Semmes CSN, CO of CSS Alabama. One of my sons is named Semmes.

my family is mostly navy and marine corps but i plan to follow my cousins into either the Army or air force

My grand father was Army Airforce in WWII as a navigator on a B-17, and my father was a Civial Affairs Officer in the Army
