There are too many and they all have their application. I will however share something that guided me: My men will work just as hard for me as I work for them. They were the ones who got things done. It was my job to make sure they had everything they needed to do it: Training, equipment, food, shelter, clothing, medical care, spiritual care, everything, as well as a clear mission and recognition when they accomplished it. They never had to worry about retribution from above me. I was their buffer. But heaven help them, there was no buffer from my displeasure. Often a look is all that was needed. It's the same credo that I lived by as a leader in civilian life. Leadership is what NCOs do. Training a Soldier to do their job correctly, legally, and safely is a lot more important to me than the unachievable amount of 350-1 training. After learning that the rebels use The Art of War. Both are applicable to today's wars.
