This was back in 93-95 or so. That one was awesome hot or cold. I still miss it. It was always the easiest for me to get down, and it was well suited for heating up on most heat sources.
The best thing to come along was the MRE Heaters in the 90's - except of course, the propensity for bored Airmen to make MRE Bombs :) MSgt Michael Durkee Wed, 04 Feb 2015 07:04:39 -0500 2015-02-04T07:04:39-05:00 Response by SFC Royce Williams made Feb 4 at 2015 9:12 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-your-favorite-mre-the-year-it-was-introduced-and-what-you-like-best-inside?n=453922&urlhash=453922

I had two. The old brown bag ham slice and the five fingers of death (basically hot dogs of sorts) you could keep them in your cargo pocket and eat em as you were walking if you had to. All these new ones you pretty much have to stop an heat em up to be able to eat them. Five fingers of death saved me many times in mile ten or so of a foot march when you needed a little more energy. I first saw them on Okinawa in 1983. Going from canned C-Rats to MRE's was not a great experience and spelled the end of the John Wayne on the dog tag chain. Yes, they were lighter and easier to carry than canned rations but they were not as good to eat.

The ones that were was most favored (traded for) were the chicken a la king and beef stew. The ones you never, ever wanted were the dehydrated beef or pork pattie since we almost never were able to reconstitute them it was like eating a brick and didn't do much for the digestive system either. Mix in canteen cup w/water and cheese, heat w/tabs. (Brutal if try to eat w/just water.)

Ham slices, too.
