What is your favorite holiday movie that brings you back to what seemed like a simpler time?

There has been a flood of new feel good movies out for the holidays and some radio stations play seasonal music around the clock, but watching "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Frosty the Snowman" "Mr Magoo's Christmas," "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," and the forever classic, "It's a Wonderful Life, " are the ones in my memory banks from childhood. If you have a favorite song mention that too. It's time to add a little seasonal spirit to counter balance everything going on around the world. Sometimes, it's good to turn off CNN and live in the moment.

For me, "it's a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Story", and "The Charlie Brown Christmas Special" get at least one viewing a year; for the kids, their favorite is "The Nightmare before Christmas".

I haven't seen it in awhile (which will now change thanks to you bringing classic Christmas movies to the forefront of my thoughts!) but Miracle on 34th Street. And for a more contemporary...but still a classic (it IS 25 years old this year...yikes!!!), Home Alone! Yes, that movie debuted in 1990. Wow.

My fave Christmas songs are all Bing Crosby classics... "Do you hear what I hear" because it reminds me of the reason for the season; "Mele Kaliki Maka" because after being stationed in Hawaii, I'd love nothing more than to live there the rest of my days; and finally, "I'll be home for Christmas" Because well...I think we've all been there as service members spending a Christmas season away from home and loved ones...but we could always go back there "if only in my dreams."

For me, it's the original 1966 "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" I must have watched it the first time at maybe 5 or 6 years old. The idea that Christmas is NOT defined by the presents was preposterous to my 5 year old brain. Not about PRESENTS!? Then what? So I still love the Grinch. He helped my heart grow a size or two as well.

I kind of figured on RP there would be plenty of votes for white Christmas seeing out it starts off in the Army just behind enemy lines. Its a feel good movie to me. Nothing says Christmas like when they open the doors and its snowing and a sleigh goes by. That to me will always be Christmas.

For me it's the original "Miracle on 34th Street" with "Charlie Brown Christmas" and the animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" as runners-up. Their messages seem so simple and mean a lot more to me as I get older.

A Christmas Story. I was delighted to hear that a person purchased the original house it was fillmed in? He runs kind of a bed and breakfast from it; and I am totally awestruck by the fact that THERE ARE THOSE LEG LAMPS still out there for sale!

The Polar Express (2004) was really great! I'd definitely recommend it to anybody who hasn't seen it.

Home Alone. I saw it upon first release as a kid and watching the family argue and crack jokes on each other was pretty much my holiday season every year. By the time my kids are old enough to watch it, they'll probably ask why none of the kids have a cell phone/tablet/video game console in the house??
