You wanting to go to Ranger school is solely based on you. They don’t care if you want to go. You either meet and exceed the standard or you don’t go to school. It will be painful but at the end of the road will be a feeling you wont understand until you pin that tab on. Go to the ARTB website and you can see all the events you will conduct. You're chances of passing the first phase are much, much higher if you go to SURT first. Bragg SURT had one of the highest success rates at Ranger School a few years ago, just below Regiments. You will have to let your leadership know you want to go and have your schools get a date for you. It would be very rewarding to go. It is just not for infantry. We have a cook and supply SGT that went and got ranger qualified. There is no army course that has ever been developed that can’t be mastered with the right attitude and good physical fitness. The only thing needed is drive and a sense of humor. If you keep your sense of humor you can get through anything. It’s always about the attitude. Ability helps but attitude is what gets you through anything. Just my opinion. Getting lost at land nav, having an ambush go wrong, looking clueless during planning lol. Good times. If you need any assistance, please message me. I have failed that course a lot unfortunately and I know it like the back of my hand. But none of your failures matter once you get the tab pinned on. Which PRC are you scheduled to attend or are you in a position to select which one to attend?

I was certified by 4th RTB (Benning and Darby Phase) and worked the ARNG Ranger Assessment and Training course which traded back and forth with 75th on success rate, followed closely by IBOLC and other PRCs. Partly due because we were, and continue to be to this day, the Cadre who work closest with 4th RTB to provide the most current information and tailor the training to focus on the events with most attrition at Ranger's Benning Phase. Whether other PRCs work as closely as we did/do with the schoolhouse is unknown to me and don't mean to disqualify or discredit any single one.

What I do know if my observations of candidates who were sent to us from other PRCs who needed a 'reset' or 'retraining' after having been dropped from Ranger. Also from the years of experience as an instructor having walked Darby patrols and taught at our PRC.

I will say that from my.personal experience as a student at Ranger, many of my buddies who were graduates from other PRCs had plenty of stories of their experiences at those selection/prep courses.

However, regardless of whether the PRC you attend is a screening, attrition, prep or a combination of these, there are two things to always keep in mind:
1. It's not "my tab" until you walk out onto Victory Pond field on graduation date. Once it is safety pinned on your shoulder, then it becomes your tab and all of the responsibility and expectations that come with it also become yours.
2. Nobody earns the tab on their own. It is a team effort every single day from PRC on through to that day on Victory Pond. Regardless of whether it takes you 61 days and a wake up or longer, teamwork is the only way to get there.

Sorry, I fibbed a bit. I have another question. How badly do you WANT it?

From a graduate of the course and as an instructor SFC(P) Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 20 May 2019 11:39:03 -0400 2019-05-20T11:39:03-04:00 2019-05-07T20:13:59-04:00
