What is the way forward for an NCO who PCS'd without his family and now has his government travel card was shut off?

A fellow NCO PCS'd without his family and got G1 to have them PCS after him. He just tried to buy tickets and found out his GTCC was turned off. DTS and finance said they cannot help him. What are his options?

Ouch, AER is a start ii'd he doesn't have personal cards to carry the load. Also an advance should be available avail for dependent travel.

What is written in his orders? There should be a statement and funding acct about his movement and then that of his family. If not he is SOL.

He need to contact the S3 at his unit, they will turn the Credit Card on for him.

The GTCC is controlled by the losing unit. Calling Citi or Finance won't get it turned back on. He's not authorized to use an AER loan to purchase it either; if he self purchases he may not get reimbursed after.
A simple call back to the losing unit card manager will fix it.

He needs to have his previous unit turn it back on. Same thing happened to me last week when I PCS’d. I learned this after I paid for my own flight.

I do not understand why he would be purchasing tickets when his local travel office can do it for him. The government travel card is normally reserved for service member use during TDY and travel, not between stations. I would first do as advised and contact the loosing G8, but I would also go on line and read the travel policy, while I was sitting in the travel office with his orders. Thank you for your service.

I'm not sure the two items are related. Rules on GTC determine when it's active and what limits are placed on it. Your friend needs to talk with his chain of command. The travel card person in his unit can make the biggest impact of getting the GTC activated. Authorization to bring dependents to place of assignment should entail orders for the dependents along with funding codes for paying for their move. These orders should be in the Defense Travel System. The move can be done without using the GTC, I suppose, but would be a lot easier with the GTC.
