What is the real reason a Buck SGT is so angry?

So we have all known the lazy angry Buck SGT, but why is someone who just got a raise so angry?

Learning leadership is why. It's frustrating trying to get people to do things but don't have the experience to properly motivate them to get it done. That's why they are always yelling. As for lazy, there should be no such thing. If I have a lazy SGT he will be meeting me with a pt belt and a 2 qt. There's no room for a lazy team leader.

I wouldn't say that every newly promoted SGT is angry or lazy. I would say for most, the transition from E4 to E5 is rough. More often than not, once promoted, not only is the new NCO trying to figure out his/her new role but more often than not, he/she is trying to do so in a new team because the command team doesn't want him/her trying to lead the same E3s and E4s that they came up in the ranks. It can all also be frustrating to try and find answers from senior NCOs only to be told to find the answer for yourself. Again, this transition is not easy at all.

Now I would say some become lazy. Some might feel as though they are above details and things like that. However, I encourage young leaders to stay involved. This is where you will form a lot of your leadership skills and earn the respect of the junior enlisted.

Because the SGT is no longer able to skip out on details. They cant sham anymore. They actually have to be responsible and accountable. And, when details are handed out, they get issued most since all of the SSG and SFC will be "stuck in meetings."

I have seen a lot of new SGT's and most embrace the new role. Some go beyond that leadership role,you have to use your chain of command to be a good leader.

I believe it is because of the new responsibilities and power that they are trying to learn and make their niche in leadership style.

I do not agree with the people that think it is that the buck SGT is going through a steep learning curve. Most buck SGTs have had a position as a team leader or squad leader berfore being promoted.

I have a different theory. I believe it is a way to break away from being a part of the sham shield club. Once being a buddy with all, and suddenly you have to find people to do details for you, not just hiding from them. It is truly another side in many ways. You still have all your friends that are Spec4's and now you are the one that has to be the bearer of bad news... "Hey guys, we have to empty that connex again!"

This would have to stem from us literally being the first line of defense for the soldiers. In some units the command isn't looking out for their best interest. They are looking for personal gain and OER bullets. I'm living this horror story as weak speak. My soldiers are like my children and they mean the world to me. So if going toe to toe with the commander means my soldiers will be treated fairly then got dang it I will.

He's angry because now he is in charge of the lazy ass Specialists and below that he used to run with. Now he has to take hold of that responsibility and try to get those he was on the same level with to respect his new authority not think that "hey, we were buds when you were a 4 now you got your 5 I know you gonna look out for me, right sarge?"

Its not tha we're mad. Its that we have to break the pattern of familiarity to achieve results and to change the way the younger enlisted soldiers view you.
