The NCO will be discharged, but how many stripes he has and what the characterization of discharge is will be up to the commander.Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 18 at 2017 4:17 PM2017-08-18T16:17:06-04:002017-08-18T16:17:06-04:00LTJG Richard Bruce2847517

There is always another side of the story. What was this NCO's history with the command? Was this his first, second, or more drug use incident? Sure, he will have VA benefits, but he will not draw a pension, nor have any other retiree privileges. This person put 10+ years in the service and got almost no return on the time invested. Not all punishments are seen.

Believe me when I say this, Most senior NCO's want to retire, very few make SFC and then just get out by choice. His separation hurt not only him, but his family. No Tricare for his spouse and children, No dental, no SBP in case he passes before his spouse, and a host of other things. Do not believe that he got off easy with a rank reduction and a Honorable discharge.Response by SSG Robert Perrotto made Aug 25 at 2017 1:20 AM2017-08-25T01:20:54-04:002017-08-25T01:20:54-04:002017-08-18T11:18:22-04:00
