I would suspect it would be a selection board or Symposium you would go to and then be selected to go to OCS at Fort Benning.

I went through OCS through California Army Guard and that was at Camp San Luis Obispo a long time ago. I went in as a specialist with only 1 year in the Army National Guard after basic training. Whatever you do, do well in PT beforehand, meet height and weight standards, remember everything you learned in basic training. Attention to detail and being able to cooperate with others as well as help those who need help. It's all a big game. Don't let the big mouths phase you. One of the nicer quieter people in my OCS class turned out to be a multi-millionaire. He is still in the Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel. Do your best, never give up and make sure to know the OCS Doctrine and infantry skills you are being taught. I was 31 years old and I had very little experience but I had the desire to succeed. Have the vision to succeed! The advantage you have here( which I did not have)was not having any mentors outside of my group. Here on Rallypoint, you have retired command sergeant majors from Battalion, Brigade and division level. You have former drill sergeants, former Tac officers and others here who could talk to you offline. If you have any gripe or major complaint, don't publish it on rallypoint but just ask one of us here who you have befriended to give you some guidance. You have come to the right place!
Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 7 at 2018 11:01 PM 2018-08-07T23:01:02-04:00 2018-08-07T23:01:02-04:00 MAJ Private RallyPoint Member 3861577

This is not a " process ". It's a life-changing decision not to be taken lightly. Start by standing in front of that mirror, and ask yourself if you have the maturity level to make a difference, as you will impact your peers and your subordinates' lives as well, not only yours.

Becoming an officer is not just an administrative process. Others may disagree.

Grind your teeth, deploy, rack up a good amount of enlisted time. Do all the shit jobs you've ever hated. Then multiply that by four. There is your pre-OCS gut test.

Don't be just another tool that can recite creed, doctrine and TMs. Become a leader. Good luck. Next put a packet together yourself and submit it by the deadine for OCS board review locally (actually those deadline dates should be Federally based now I believe). Next go to a local MEPS or Armory and be interviewed by an OCS Review Board who reviews your packet and asks you questions based on it. Next they deliberate and decide if you go further onto the school or they tell you that you didn't make it. If you go further onto the school at that point an Officer Recruiter sits down with you and sets up an OCS School Date based on which option you select. There is a go on active duty option and there is a attempt to do this on Reserve Duty option at a Reserve post during drill weekends. Both Commissioning programs are supposed to be equal now (though it was not always that way in the past, used to be the Reserve Commission was not the same as the Active Duty Commission). There used to also be an OCS Internet Website that the varous OCS classes use and reference along with some of the OCS Cadre. If that is still up and running be REAL CAREFUL how you treat people on it and what you say because some of those folks can NIX your application or make your time in OCS a real hell. I'll let you find the website yourself or your Chain of Command can point you there. Don't go there until your at least putting a packet together.

Putting the packet together will take you at least 4-6 months unless you are unemployed and living in your Parents Basement.....(OK, that was my attempt at humor). There is a lot that goes into a packet including 2-3 written recommendations from collegues or other Officers, Professors on why you would make a great OCS Candidate. I think you have to do an essay yourself as well.......each has to be at least a page. Then your college transcripts as proof you have a degree, A current job Resume...........and some other stuff. Like I said the board of Officers you stand before will review most of that and they can base their questions on it to you. What you say and how you say it is important.

Be prepared for the next 18 months after you tell your Chain of Command to hear everyones favorite admonishment: "If you want to go to OCS your going to have to do better than that". You will want to strangle someone that utters that phrase about month #6 or 7........but just keep your cool.

Long ago when I was an Army Forums Moderator on Military dot com. I spent some time on the OCS website as well and got to know it's Moderator he was ex-USAF and eventually became a LT with the 82nd Airborne, then joined one of those high speed RSTS units or whatever exactly it is called. Sorry memory is bad it was about 8 years ago. He was either the Mod or said he knew the Mod, forget which. It was funny though reading some of the posts on that website, so like I said be careful. I had to move heaven and earth to even make first contact though. The webmaster kept ignoring my PM requests so Finally had to post on the OCS website......"who do I have to sleep with for someone to finally contact me".........got an email back the next day, ha-ha-ha. I can get away with that as a Veteran, don't do that as a Candidate. Anyways I needed to make contact because Military.com at that time was getting lots of OCS Candidate questions and I needed their permission to send them onto the OCS website as I had no clue how to answer their questions and few other posters were. I know back around 2007 the 88th RRC used to hold special meeting for those who wanted help filling out he paper work and for those who had submitted the packet they could arrange for them to be boarded at those sessions. I did the packet etc but then transferred commands and never pursued it at my new command.
