What is the PT test now and to those who done both, which one is better? What is the new Army PT test, if there was a change to the three event PU/SU and 2 mile run? 2021-03-19T17:46:32-04:00 SSG Brian MacBain 6837341

I been retired since 2006 and remember the PT test consisted of three events, Push up, sit up and 2 mile run. The ACFT appears to be an Upper Body Round Robin (PFA used by ARSOF) that big Army got their grubby mitts on and ripped apart and repurposed for their own use.
It is truly much easier to pass, most people shouldn't have a problem passing (the gold standard - aka lowest level) by just doing day to day work - maybe having to practice the leg tuck at most. But to max the whole thing the gym rats will need to learn to run, and the runners will need to learn to lift. It is technically on hold until March 2022 but did replace the APFT. As in, if people fail it, it cannot be held negatively against them and they cannot be flagged.

Here's the Army link to it: https://www.army.mil/acft/

I think the APFT is much easier to pass but it didn't really measure fitness. I think there are better tests we could do to accurately measure fitness. They are already working toward ACFT 3.0 - and Congress ordered an independent study of an outside entity on how truly effective it is.

I've seen an article on a kettlebell test that would actually measure fitness for combat but I can't find the link right now. Ultimately if they want the ACFT - I think they should do just the deadlift, sprint drag carry and I suppose aerobic event since the Army loves that part.

Army Combat Fitness Test

Army Combat Fitness Test

Response by SFC Kelly Fuerhoff made Mar 19 at 2021 6:35 PM 2021-03-19T18:35:06-04:00 2021-03-19T18:35:06-04:00 LTC Private RallyPoint Member 6838214

75% of women cannot do one tuck. I personally believe that we will lose 10% of the military across-the-board. Maxing it is not the goal, passing it is. I could do a 299 on the last APFT given in October 2019. It got sold to the army like that digital throw up uniform that only blended in with your grandma's couch. All about money and who the generals have investments with. I left the army because of that test. What they don't talk about is the massive amount of injuries already being reported, especially at basic training hubs. It is a total of 6 events, last event is the traditional 2-mile run. Gold, grey and black (highest) standard depending on your AOC / MOS.

I enjoyed taking the ACFT over the previous APFT. It truly is better for overall physical fitness and it was fun doing it with my unit. Like with everything in the Army, we just have to be adaptable to change and constantly improve current standards.
