On the Organization of American States it reads "United States of America". When you are a civilian, they ask if you are US Citizen at the borders. On your tax returns you check off US Citizen. In the Articles of Confederation 1781, it clearly stated that the stile of this Confederacy shall be "The United States of America". <br /><br />If the country's name is The United States of America then why would you shorten the name unless you were hiding something? Was the name changed.....ABSOLUTELY! In the US Constitution it was changed to "the United States of America" and "the united States of America". So i ask you again, what is the name of the country that you serve? It's called the United States because it is clearly stating that each state is separate. It's important to not because united it makes up the country but you are technically not American you are from the respective state you are born in. That's the reason for state specific birth certificates. It's only America to aliens.
