I never bought the line that we "gave our power away", somewhere along the way the Army "told" us that our Soldiers had more power than we did and it trickled down and some of our SrNCOs and Officers acted accordingly. No boots to shine I just had to teach a soldier how to spit shine his jump boots yesterday Scary Scary day's ahead.

We should go back to starched and pressed BDU's and spit shined boot's If you look good in uniform you'll feel good. That will build confidence. as your confidence grows so does your pride and so on and so on then before you know it your not only meeting the standard you are raising it.
SSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 14 Mar 2014 09:47:22 -0400 2014-03-14T09:47:22-04:00 Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 14 at 2014 6:54 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-most-prominent-issue-in-today-s-army-culture-and-how-would-you-fix-it?n=76091&urlhash=76091

I think is the failure lies with the senior leaders unwillingness to coach, train, and mentor their subordinates. how often do Sergeants Major take the time to mentor the SFC's and MSG's, or train other NCOs and junior enlisted. I think senior NCOs are too concerned with their own careers to make sure their subordinates have the tools to be successful. A leaders only concern should be to prepare their subordinates to take over their job. It just isn't what it used to be. Soldiers don't show NCO's and Officers the same respect that used to be demanded of them, NCOs and Officers aren't as well rounded and professional as before. Or at least they don't have the desire to learn and be experts in their field. A lot of it stems from the current generation's view that they can get whatever they want by putting out minimum effort. They have a huge sense of entitlement that I've never seen before. It falls on the NCO's to demand high standards from their Soldiers, and I just don't see it happening like it should be. We aren't empowering our junior leaders and then we wonder why they fail when they are promoted to a position of greater responsibility.
