However, the Army has been trying to increase tour lengths (3-4 years) in an effort to save money on PCS moves. The less you move someone, the less you spend on the costs associated with PCS's. Even then there are a couple of instances where you can PCS under 12 months, but that's where those extenuating circumstances come into play. UNLESS it's a no cost move.

Now about the 12 months......a lot of times Divisions or major HQs will push back and cite their own regs, SOPs, directives, and any other command driven document to keep people, and will put up a stink. But if there's a compelling reason, and it's beneficial to the Army (key), they can move you at the 12 month mark. Branch won't like it unless they're driving it though...... LTC David B. Yes, DA wants to try to keep tour lengths longer for initial termers. That is not the case as you gain rank. Only so many E-7 and above positions, with the right qualifications. If you re-enlisted for your current duty station, you must complete 75%, but i don’t believe that information is completely accurate considering that i re-upped for Irwin on a 5yr contract and had only been on station for 32 months when i got put on orders to PCS with report date within 4 months.
Honestly, i have already been at my current station for 12 months and i’m going next week to retention to try and get the hell out of here.
