What is the fastest ranking up you have seen someone attain?

Just curious what is the fastest you have seen someone rank up? When I was in San Diego, I was told my ITC was the 2nd fastest ranking person in the Navy. It's been a few years but I believe he had made Chief in 6 years. I personally made E5 at my 3 year mark - and came in as an E1, missed E5 my first time up by 4 points.

Knew a Special Forces NCO make MSG in 9 years. He was a hard charger and extremely fluent in Arabic 3/3.

I met a chief back in the day who'd made it in under 8 years. I remember being impressed. Back then it took a lot of effort and time to get there. Most chiefs that I met had been into their 3rd enlistment before getting selected.

How about making E-5 about 18 months after enlistment date.

Where are those MU's at? I personally have never met one but I heard they get advanced depending on their abilities?

made E5 in 2 years - EM2 - a little over 50 years ago, probably harder now

I was a rated E-3 out of boot, E-4 six months after and E-5 one year later. Was told I could get E-6 if I would re-enlist my third year in. That would make eligible for CPO in my 7th year. But that was 40 something years ago when critical ratings ruled.

Well i entered as an E-1, made E-2 in basic, E-3 at about a year. E-4 a few months later, and E-5 one year after E-4. So about 2 years and a couple months for me so far, but another sailor in the same rate from my same division was meritoriously advanced straight out of school and achieved E-5 6 months before me. That's pretty fast. My Chief in Basic training made it in 7 years. He's a senior now so that puts him at about a 9 1/2 year Senior Chief.

I personally knew an USAF member that made CMSgt (E9) in under 16 years. That's the quickest I've ever seen.

I have a ITCM who made it in 14 years. Not sure I have ever heard of anything faster then that.

I went from E1 to E5 in 2 years. I thought that was fast, but I've met others who have done the same. I was up for E6 at my 4 year mark but that's when I separated. I doubt I would have ever made chief. I challenged the status quo on a daily basis and that was frowned upon

7 years to ITC is the fastest I have seen. I actually meet the guy in a school in Mayport.

Off the subject a little but it always gave me a smile when I saw an FCCM in his dress uniform with red chevrons. From a different time period he probably retired in the late 200X. Everyone loved this guy, not because he was a screwup but because he had screwed up and never forgot what being a sailor was about and the unique experiences and trials that go along with extended, albeit shorter for the most part than let’s say Army and Marine Personel have it....you guys know. It’s all different but in some ways the same.

I made E-5 in 20 1/2 months. But it was a different time and place. Over 50 yrs ago.

Reached E5 in 4 months out of ait. Graduated first in class. :)
