It was given to me in lieu of pay. I was able to trace the name in the masks use register to the War memorial in Lancaster NH. I asked him what was up? He put his car in reverse and backed up very slowly. Then stopped. Got out and picked up a huge diamond engagement ring which he had appraised at a two karat diamond and 18 karat gold ring. He never told me the value it appraised at but he said he was going to keep it as the pawn shop would not give him anywhere near the actual value of the ring. I had a feeling he might try to sell it himself for a fair offer. There were no off limits or private property not no trespassing signs posted. I got to metal detect that area for over a year while living within walking distance of it. I got large amounts of silver coins, some gold jewelry, foreign coins etc. It has since been torn down and no longer available to metal detect in. All good things come to an end. Was tearing out the old plaster walls and found a 1877 Indian Head Penny. It looked brand new to me. I gave it to my friend since it was his grandmother's house and never knew what he did with it or can find out. I do remember telling him I would give him Five dollars for it. Later in 2018, I learned that this penny would be worth about 3 thousand dollars today in the condition I found it. We always looked through the so-called "box lots" because we had some good luck now and then. Some of the folks sorting through the lots at the auction houses would make mistakes now and then, so we found some good stuff...first edition books, valuable jewelry, a nice watch now and then. We left that business years ago, but it was fun. The sword was intact, no handle must have rotted away, handguard was still there with writing on it. I gave it to my uncle, who came to Guam during WWII, as a EOD in the army, then marring my father's sister. He was a collector of war things, had some swords, rifles and other things. Last I saw it, was in the 60's hanging on his wall, with some Japanese rifles.
