Do you already have a degree in something. The army has the AMEDD program, its called something else now, and it is really a good deal but it takes a while to do it if you don&#39;t have any college credits Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 22 at 2017 3:36 AM 2017-01-22T03:36:05-05:00 2017-01-22T03:36:05-05:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 2270619 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>What exactly do you mean by &quot;Medical Officer&quot;? If you go ROTC it does not count towards retirement. If you enlist in Reserves or National Guard and then do OCS after you get your degree and you get retirement points during that time. Or you can reenlist, go ROTC and do the SMP where you are both Reserves/National Guard and ROTC and come out with a commission. The real question is what do you want to do after you commission? Do you want to be Reserves, National Guard, or Active Component? From there you can better assess what options you have. You will become a commissioned officer as a nurse in the Army. In ROTC nursing majors a tracked to become nurses and already have will a branch manager as a freshman. They will help you with questions about your future Army career. The other cadets don&#39;t get this opportunity until after their branch selection which is in the spring semester of their senior year.
