What is the best way to conduct a battalion staff duty rotation? 2015-04-18T21:09:13-04:00 2015-04-18T21:09:13-04:00 CSM Michael J. Uhlig 601167

- Normal duty hours (during the workweek), our SDO/SDNCO remains with the unit (relieves the runner for lunch), the SDO/SDNCO reports at 1630 for the remainder of the shift.

- Weekends reporting time is 0900, which tends to allow time for the sun to be up and for the roads to be cleared during inclement weather periods.

- Extra duty is 1800 - 2330 on normal duty days and 0900 - 2330 on weekends/training holidays and DONSAs. Based on imposition of restriction, religious services are not hindered....based on motivation and dedication, I have been known to recommend a day off (a weekend duty) during the extra duty timeframe. A company had all battalion duties for a week. I might be the duty officer twice in one week but then knew I was ok for 5 weeks.
