They were very insistent on maintaining command and the majority in personnel so an agreement was worked out so that they fed, supplied, housed, provided hair cuts, and laundry services. Their Ltc became our hospital commander. It was a very unique and broadening deployment. I enjoyed learning how our counterparts operated. We also worked closely with the Italian, Bulgarian, and Albanian medical contingents attached to the hospital. I served as the Crash / Rescue Fire Chief. I was lucky enough to go to places in Antarctica that are not occupied any longer. I was a part of the team to close the Paul Siple Station. Went to South Pole Station numerous times. Traveled to every US facility on the continent. Spent time in Christchurch, New Zealand. Visited the New Zealand Air Force Army to recruit for duty in Antarctica working in the Fire Department.<br /><br />Before Antarctica I was a Westpac Sailor on board America's Flagship; USS Constellation.
