What is the Best Aircraft in the current inventory?

Well I would have to say the A-10 but I guess that is mainly due to the type of war we are fighting at this moment in Afghanistan and how many people I have seen it kill.

I would vote for the CH-47 chinook. While it is not a killing macine it is very vital in getting troops and supplies in and out of Iraq/Afghanistan.

CH-47 for getting troops supplies and in and out of situations in large numbers.

But also think the All aircraft serve there purposes especially the A-10.

Any aircraft with a Marine pilot in the seat. :)

Seriously, F-18E. The 22 is great but for the cost, we can put alot more 18E's and an 18G in the air. Plus the weapons load of the 18 is alot higher and its fully capable from the sea as land and against air and ground targets.

15 is just to old. Kinda like pitting a 67 Camaro against a C7 vette. Both great, but common...

If we're talking bombers, the B-52.
Fighters, the F/A-18 or F-15
Attack-Fixed, the A-10.
Cargo-Fixed, C-17
Cargo/Utility-rotary, the CH-53
Attack-Rotary, AH-64

Can't really generalize that considering the broad spectrum that would cover. However, simply due to longevity, I'd probably go with the B-52 or the CH-46/47 because they've been around for 50-60 years.

The Chinook, not that I would have any bias haha.

Been around since the early 1960s and still going strong. Versatile, fast (for a helicopter), and as I like to say, the Chinook can do anything a Blackhawk can, only faster, heavier, and better.

I'd say it's the F-35 as the USAF seems intent on sacrificing EVERYTHING in order to pay for it.

Well, if you ask a Soldier it would the A-10, F-16, C-130, or C-17... But, the Air Force is enamored with Air Superiority Fighters... So, I suspect they would say otherwise.

The C-130, B-52, and various C-135 variants have seen minimal redesign and heavy usage since their creation over half a century ago, and are indispensable components of the current manner in which we conduct war. But I am partial to the C-130, especially as I think it has proven to be the single most versatile military airframe in history. It can be a flying pickup truck, a flying artillery battery, a clandestine deep-penetrator, a tanker, an electronic attack platform, MISO platform, hurricane hunter, CSAR enabler, and who knows what else could be thought up.

Big fan of the F-15. While in Turkey I was helping put our KC-135 squadron to bed and a couple F-15 come in to land. On their approach they fly over the runway then pull hard left to circle around and land. The trailing 15 didn't have the airspeed to complete the turn. Now perpendicular to the ground without the airspeed to flatten out and gain lift he starts falling. He was about 1,000 feet off the ground. He throttles up and pulls out of it. It was awesome to see. Having a thrust to weight ratio greater than 1 is a nice thing to have.

However, to answer the question, it depends yet I lean toward the MH-53.

Fighter= F-15E
Attack= A-10
Tanker= KC-135
Bomber= B-52G
Electronic Warfare=EA-18G
Helicopter=MH-53

Without question it has to be the KC-135. None of the rest of the aircraft inventory can do its job in today's warfare without the KC-135, and its stablemate, the KC-10.

I would vote for the C-130. It is, by far, the most versatile aircraft in our inventory. What doesn't it do now that it couldn't be modified to do? Air to air? I think you could mount a hell of a battery of AIM-120's on it!

The Navy F-18, Army Apache, Black hawk, Marines F-35 VTOL, Air Force A-10 for close air support (Gun with wings), F-15E, F-22, F-16, for air superiority, C-130 & C-17 for air lift. One can't choose one without picking another. I may have left a couple out. But the ones above help the other out. Even though the most of the new generation aircraft are fly by wire and have several computers on board to help the pilot and WSO, there still needs to be some human interaction to defeat the enemy in the sky.

BTW I'm a retired Air Force F-4 Phantom II crew chief. This work horse may not have been a crew chief dream but it was one heck of a weapons system in its day, I particularly liked the role of the F-4G Wild Weasel and it's hunter/killer role.

Best aircraft in the inventory is the KC-135. Every fast mover and bomber needs it. The AC-130 crowd uses us. We perform MEDEVAC, humanitarian and combat support operations. Plus, it's old and paid for. :) When it comes to whirly birds, I am partial to the Chinook. My years as an FSR on that old bird were great. What a fantastic and capable machine.

It is dependent on which mission you need to accomplish. In my opinion, we no not have a best aircraft for the mission of ground combat support. The A-10 is the closest we have,but is actually a poor choice. Something on the order of a modern P-47,or Skyraider. The past and current conflicts need a low slow HEAVILY laden aircraft.Load ammo on Sunday and shoot all week.No need to shoot ground troops with 5000 RPM 25 or 30 mm ammo . MA Duces in the wings will do the job just fine, carry much more, there fore killing many more. Just look at the staffing runs of WWII. They did that many times,where an A-10 is good for maybe two passes and is Winchester. Dealing with tanks is a different story,bring on the A-10.

I can only speak for the aircraft Ive personally put my beaters on. Between the F-4, F-16, A-10 and the F-15, I would say the F-15. This aircraft seemed to be designed by the people that work of aircraft. The others seemed you needed to be an engineer just to load weapon systems.

My opinion? C-130E Herk!!! Best damn plane in the inventory. That includes the newer versions!They take a licking and keep on ticking..to coin a phrase! But then again I may be biased.....I was a C-130E Loadmaster for 20 yrs and I love my Herk!!
