What is proper protocol on multiple posts of the same or relative topics?

I've only been on Rally Point for about a week or so. But, I've noticed that if one mistakenly starts a new discussion on a topic that's already been posted (if even it was several months ago) there seems to be a bit of contention in some groups with some members.

What, if any, is the proper protocol where Rally Point is concerned? Not looking to start a war. Just trying to wrap my head around the etiquette that's practiced here.

Admins look for duplicates and depending on the number of stars, have options to edit, close, merge similar discussions.

As SGM Private RallyPoint Member pointed out, admins (those of us with little stars by our profile picture) try our best to keep an eye out for duplicates. Once one is found we can link it to the existing thread and move all the comments. A perfect example was this morning we had a few posts wishing the Coast Guard a Happy Birthday. All great threads but I don't think we need more than one to show our support to our Coast Guard brothers and sisters.

The advice I will give you Sgt Mitchell Sporar is when you see a duplicate thread, you can bring it to our attention by tagging one of us by typing @ and then our name (ie @Ben should bring up a drop down with my name and picture).
