I try to not be offended by anything said about me or to me.thete have been times on RP, when I feel offended. Calling me a liar, illiterate, or other offensive terms does get my attention. I have read, and been involved in some flame wars. After reading this article, I determined it qualifies as a RP discussion question. Read it, comment on it, if you want to. Let's try to express what offends us and not be rude or crude to anyone. Especially me. LOL

If your childhood was anything like mine you heard this one more than once: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me.” It was most likely taught to you as a fitting retort to those who would tease or say unkind things.

It all comes down to one thing, respect.
Be respectful, even in disagreement, and you will never give offense.
Be emotional, call names, use specious arguments or straw men to make your points, and not only are you logically vactuous, you are almost certainly offensive.

Let your argument/ disagreement be centered on facts, and you are on solid ground.

One thing we have plenty of is overly sensitive members. I've posted this very thing as well. If you lodge more than one complaint about the same member in a day, try not responding. If you insist on being the adolescent and stirring the pot, I pray you don't feel the need to put in another complaint. If you send it to me, don't expect hugs and for me to reinflate your self-esteem. Get therapy. Admins don't work for you just because you tag them relentlessly. If you have to seek help consistently....the problem is with you. Sucks to hear it, hard to accept it, but the sooner you accept it, the better off you will be. I laugh my butt off sometimes just watching you get sucked into a conversation and get all upset. Tag me when someone posts nudity, George Carlin's '7 dirty words', or says they are coming over to light your cat on fire. Etc, etc, etc. Do not tag me because someone allured something disrespectful to your beliefs. That is their right. You also have the right to............wait for it...............NOT RESPOND.

Anytime you don't sugarcoat a statement or disagreement on this forum, people get awfully offended. Direct words and true statements are more important than someone's feelings. Their tears are delicious.

I think it's okay to be offended if something, actually, offends you. There are offensive things out there, after all, and we all have a sense of decency that can be tripped by a subject that disrupts that.

The problem is, a lot of people use the concept of being offended as an excuse to shut down discussion about a topic. *That* is where the problem lies.

I used to be offended by many things. These days, very little bothers me. I just remember that it's not my monkey, not my zoo.
