While I like the idea of free education, you're right, someone has to pay for it. I also like the thought of having to figure out how to pay for it. To a certain extent that's part of the process and a test in itself. Some of that is working, some is loans, some is scholarships, but it's a lesson in itself.Response by LCDR Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 12 at 2015 4:53 PM2015-11-12T16:53:01-05:002015-11-12T16:53:01-05:00SPC David S.1104865

Bernie Sanders is an idiot - His free stuff is going to cost $18 trillion and he says he going to get that from raising taxes. This has led to many individuals to take on large amounts of student debt to pay for an education.

For the most part the people I am hearing about want the system to be more fair for them, which requires them to go into a great deal of debt for an education that they are told is necessary. While college should not be free, it should not cost what it does at public universities.

I will give an example of wildland firefighting, which an individual could do for 3 months during the summer, and could walk away with enough cash to make it to the next spring. The individual may need to find some light work during the winter if they needed some extra cash, but it was possible only 15 years ago. Now a wildland job for one semester that can be taken between extended seasons (6-8 Months), or along with another job all winter.

There is a point to be taken away, again college shouldn’t be free, but it should be affordable if it is going to be as necessary as it is in today’s society.Response by Cpl Chris Rice made Nov 12 at 2015 7:56 PM2015-11-12T19:56:19-05:002015-11-12T19:56:19-05:00Maj Bill Smith, Ph.D.1105349

Posted this article today on the topic: The Million Student March

http://arkansasgopwing.blogspot.com/2015/11/the-million-student-march.html

Imagine if you sat down at a restaurant and the middle aged couple that sat at the table before you had run a very high bill and said you would pay it. That's the reality of the situation young people face today. That bill manifests itself not only in crippling government debt at every level, but also in terms of inflation and outsourced jobs due to the rising costs of American workers.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 22 at 2015 1:05 PM2015-11-22T13:05:14-05:002015-11-22T13:05:14-05:002015-11-12T16:14:06-05:00
