Should the order not be received by the 10th of November, 1921, it
will be read upon receipt.
(1) On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental
Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name "Marine". In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.
(2) The record of our corps is one which will bear comparison with that of the most famous
military organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existence the
Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes. From the Battle of Trenton to the
Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war, and in the long eras of tranquility at home,
generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both hemispheres and in every
corner of the seven seas, that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and security.
(3) In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our corps, Marines have acquitted themselves
with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.
(4) This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received
from those who preceded us in the corps. With it we have also received from them the eternal spirit
which has animated our corps from generation to generation and has been the distinguishing mark of the Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourish Marines will be found equal
to every emergency in the future as they have been in the past, and the men of our Nation will
regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of
the Sea" since the founding of the Corps.
JOHN A. The screenplay by Kubrick, Michael Herr, and Gustav Hasford was based on Hasford's novel The Short-Timers (1979). The film stars Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D'Onofrio, R. Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood, Arliss Howard, Kevyn Major Howard, and Ed O'Ross, and its storyline follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their training and the experiences of two of the platoon's Marines in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. The film's title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by infantry riflemen. The film was released in the United States on June 26, 1987.

The film received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for Kubrick, Herr, and Hasford.[4] In 2001, the American Film Institute placed Full Metal Jacket at No. 95 in their "AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills" poll.[

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTQAXX08A-s

Full Metal Jacket - Gunnery Sergeant Hartman

2+ Actors

Response by SFC Joe S. Happy Birthday Marines... I have many co-workers/friends who are (were) Marines. As we talked about our military experiences (I was prior Army), one big difference that I learned was that all Marines are taught Marine history. Every Marine knows when the Marine Corps birthday is. How many Army, Air Force, or Navy folks know the anniversary date of their service? When I was in the Army basic and AIT, I don't recall learning any history lessons regarding the Army. Although, the AF does teach AF history, but not to the extent of the Marines. They have a very unique culture that works well for them, but probably would not work in the other services. Of course, the great majority of the forces who made those landings were U.S. Marines. My uncle, VADM Frank Vannoy, really loved his Marines, and when I joined the Army, he severely chewed me out. It was a tough choice, but my father's family had always been Army, and I couldn't disappoint my father and grandfather when I enlisted. One reason it was a tough choice was because the U.S. Marine Corps, pound for pound, is probably the toughest bunch of fighting men we have had on our side since this Republic got started, and I wanted to know if I could make their standard. I think we're all very glad that the U.S. Marines are on our side. My best friend in Texas joined the Marines, and finished Marine OCS despite a hairline fracture in his leg. I knew he was tough, but didn't know he was that tough.... Anyway, God bless the U.S. Marines, and I pray they will keep their incredible spirit and toughness working for us all. My father in WWII and Korea, his father and uncles in WWI, China and South America... and on back for seven generations.
I wasn't raised to be a Marine, but the outcome was pretty much a given, I suppose. My father was at a loss in how to handle a daughter while his wife and the older two daughters were out. He reached back into his memory, and taught me all sorts of useful Marine things, that weren't so useful to most five year olds. I knew the manual of arms, I could clean am M1 and throw a pretend grenade like a pro, but I really wanted a new doll.
I met a thousand old Marines, sitting and drinking Shirley Temples at VFW's, I heard old men who took Tarawa, Peliliu, Saipan, and Okinawa, laughing and remembering stealing beer from the Army supply on Guadalcanal, and the night they stole the train out of Wellington, heading back to their base on New Zeeland, (SP?) Their memories became mine in a way... but all I really wanted, was to have a frilly little hat and purse for Easter at church, like all the other little girls wore in 1961.
Its not the Marine Corps to me... its family history, and I think its the same for most of us... its not just a military branch, its ingrained in us all, that feeling of family, of personal history... of having a connection not just to the Marine on the right, but to the Marine in the rigging of a sailing ship, the exhausted men clinging to the black sand at Iwo... and the Marines digging with bloody hands to find others in Beiruit.
If the Army could instill the same sense of personal connection to the past in its people, they'd have the same magical connection to their service as Marines.
As I said, its my opinion, take it for what its worth. The Time in Boot Camp and ITS had broken me down and molded me into a Marine. I have not went through other boot camps but my understanding is to see it through and you make it through. In the Corps you earn your way through and keep earning while in.
