What is going on with the Hampton Roads naval reserve recruiting command?

So I have been trying to get on touch with a recruiter for the NR for the past 3 week. The number on the navy website is wrong or no good or the recruiters just don't answer the phone. The other number goes straight to a computer generated voicemail and of course no returned phone call. This is unsat and disappointing to say the least. This can not be a reflection of my beloved navy that I spent 8 years in. Does anyone have any contacts or a good number?

I hate to break it to ya shipmate, this is fairly normal for the Naval Reserves. As far back as I can remember the Naval Reserves has done next to nothing in the recruiting department, at least doing such things as manning a phone or even returning calls.

I would suggest you find the nearest recruiting center and go in. When I got out in the 80's to go back to school that's what I had to do. Even then, the recruiters were, shall we say, less than interested.

Sadly, this is normal. I get that runaround every time someone asks me for a recruiter. If you don't get a good contact soon, you should ask your Congressman's local staff. They do stuff like this all the time and get answers.

I had similar troubles contacting a recruiter when I first started the process of reenlisting. My solution was to find the nearest NOSC and just walk in to talk to someone. Be prepared for a slow process, it took me about two months and three last minute cancellations to finally get a physical, we are finalizing my package now and my recruiter expects to have me back in sometime next month.

Reserves are low priority right now and prior service are at the back of that line.

Now I did talk to the local ang recruiter but not wanting to work on raptors or be in a construction battalion. I do have to loose 16 lbs. I guess I shrunk since leaving the navy

My suggestion to you is to realize that what you see is what you get! so... look into the USAR, ARNG, or AFR.
Whomever is more responsive and cooperative, whoever gives you MORE, that will be your choice.
