What is everyone's techniques for cleaning tan desert boots?

What is everyone's techniques for cleaning desert boots? I tried one of the "suede cleaners" with a hard scrub brush but that simply tore up the boot.

I know it's a little late but I have had the best luck with a white eraser and a soft toothbrush. No need for a stiff brush that just takes material off. Hope this helps you out.
